Remember this?

My mistake, I thought the FCC had already given the go-ahead (because the buyout happened a while ago). Proceed with flogging me, Krynn. I unfairly accused you once again. Sorry mate. =/

Nah, its understandable. The deal was indeed on the table and essentially a sure thing for a long time now. The only thing that could have stopped it was some legitimate net neutrality legislation, which of course we didn't get.

This, together with the recent removal of the 2 best porn torrent sites in the world, renders me suicidal.

You may take my money, my TV, my internets, my anything. But damn you, you DONT TAKE A MANS PORN, FOR ****S SAKE YOU JUST DONT DO THAT

I need fiber optic at my apartment. ASAP.

Comcast sucks.

My internet comes from a magic box which I have to play flute music to, to keep it pleased.

Hey Stig, how expensive is internet up there? I know I've been saying this for a long time now, but im pretty close to actually committing to moving to Canada.

It's... well, it's decent, but getting worse. Right now my landlord pays roughly $60 a month for a 100GB cap, 10mbps cable (Cogeco, who resells cable from Rogers). My mom pays $50 a month for a 60GB cap, 8mbps (Bell DSL). Unfortunately, the CRTC (national telcom regulator) recently approved usage-based billing. The effective duopoly of Rogers and Bell, who own all the infrastructure - yes, ALL of it - are moving forward with plans like 30GB caps and upwards of $3 per gig over that, with no limit to overage charges. Every other ISP will be subject to these same prices, and eventually it's going to be passed on to consumers no matter which ISP reseller you subscribe to.

British Columbia is trying to reverse it, but it's really up to the individual provinces now, and since the CRTC is staffed almost entirely by ex-Rogers or Bell employees, I don't have much hope.

Pretty much. Entirely dependent on which province you're talking about. I'd like to think BC's telecom market doesn't hold you by the balls as much as Ontario's does (lack of Bell), but in comparison Telus sucks at a lot of things (like speed, random cutouts).

Well, I shouldn't say a complete lack. They're here, but their share of the market isn't nearly as big as Telus/Rogers, and their presence is limited mostly to phones. I don't know anyone who has Bell internet here.

Good. **** Bell.

I have heard some rumblings about Telus, but not as much as the Duopoly, so it must be slightly better over there.

A Brave New World.

Uh, isn't it already happening? Huxley himself was surprised 30 years later at how fast the world was heading towards the reality presented in his book.

It's happening, but we've still got a few years to go.

A NSFW warning would be appreciated on that link, Rav.

EDIT: Oh, and har har.

Ya know, for some reason I have faith in the people of this country doing what's right and flooding the streets in protest. Weird, huh?

Well if you're anything like the Brits at the moment you will also start being violent, smashing in windows, throwing petrol bombs and kicking the Prince of Wales' car.

Damn, Canada's internet is even worse than America's. You guys set the precedent, you ****s!
