I'm really tempted to replay the original games in the source engine (assuming they're included) before playing HL2's story.
Anyone else gonna do this?

I'm also tempted, but i won't do it. I'll just play regular HL a few days before it's released.

HL1 will be converted to the end of the summer or start of fall, not when HL2 is released, sorry.

If you can wait for another two or three months after HL2 is released, then sure, do that. Sounds like a good idea. Though I remember it pretty well, it's such an... ... It's just a part of my other personality, Gordon...

I recently played HL1 through again about a month ago, so I'm pumped to play HL2 soon.

Ill play HL2 then HL1 again just to make it more interesting... like a flashback.

Im just gonna play thru HL few days b4 release, that shuld get me pumped up and ready for story line that HL2 will bring :)

Wrong thread ?

Or r u jus trying to change the subject lol

Anyway i think HL2 will have its own MP (themed on HL2 SP) like in CoD where maps r similar to ones in SP, And that CS:Source etc etc will be sold seperatly

Nah. I wouldn't be able to make it through the original again (esp the xen parts) and still enjoy it because of the anticipation. It would be too much of a chore. AFTER I've finished the new storyline, then I'll be able to enjoy revisiting HL.

Screw that! I'll play Half-Life 2 first then go back and play Half-Life 1 then 2 back to back.

I'm pretty sure it's already done.
But I think they will release it sometime after HL2 anyway.

I was under the impression that the ports would come out around the same time as Half-Life 2...

Sorry if my information is incorrect then, but that's the latest I've heard. And I meant that they're coming out, I don't know if they're finished or not (Don't really care, they're not out.)

Yeah I'd like to thi9nk so - it'd be nice to play through the whole thing again (before polaying HL2) and play, relatively seamlessly, into the beginning of the sequel, thus having Gordon's complete experience. If you see what I mean...

I've just recently rebeat HL and OP4 but the only problem I have, is that I havent played blue shift, so I might find that and beat it first. That way I can get the FULL storyline soo far.

But what if the redone HL1 resembles HL2 too much in some ways? Then maybe the enthusiasm towards HL2 would decrease after playing the remake.

SPECIAL EDITION EXTRA!!!! WOHOOO ALL t3H AY

this isnt anything confirmed, just my own expectation

since the game style is kinda diferent (hl1 being all close quarters, inside black mesa, hl2 being more outsides, at least so fsr), i wouldnt excpect any surprise spoiling by playing hl1.. even if there would be spoiling, i would prefer spoil the engine playing hl1 than hl2 first...

Gabe specifically said that all the ports of old content to the Source engine would be available AT RELEASE. Personally, I'm going to be subscribing to Steam, I think it will be the far more cost effective way to get all this stuff, as opposed to buying it all seperately.

Really? I thought he said only "Counterstrike Source" would be. YAY.

^^ Yep, download the first version of the demo, the one that's like 35 megs or so.

BS doesn't add much to the storyline.... in fact, it doesn't add anything at all... except the story of how Barney escaped from Black Mesa... uh, all right, it adds something....

Ok, shut up, The.Spiral...

Owned.

Just because someone isn't up on the news, doesn't mean you have to slam them. :dozey:

I would imagine that even if the Redux packs aren't available in stores at the launch of the game, that they will be available via steam (to promote it as sales option).

I'm hoping that the Redux of the original game is more than just a simple graphic makeover. For starters I would expect that Eli, Dr Kleiner and Barney are made distinct from the rest of the Scientists/security gaurds to tie in with Sequel. Perhaps also some reworking of the levels to integrate the source physics into the gameplay (otherwise it is going to be pretty wasted), however I don't expect to see the manipulator make an appearance.

If the opportunity is there I'd like to play the Redux firstly, but like most I'll probably settle for the original, then the sequel and then a replay of both. Just looking at the E3 footage it's clear to see that there exists a great deal of replay value in HL².

Since Gabe said they're gonna be released at the same time as HL2, i thought that they were gonna be released at the same time as HL2. :dozey:

Even if not, the question could still be answered hypothetically.

I re-played Half-Life 1 back in September, when we thought Half-Life 2 would be released in a few weeks. The game was still a lot of fun, but there's no way I'm gonna wait for HL1 in the new source before playing HL2.

I read last year, that Gabe said they ported HL1 into source before anything else.

im a little confused
does this mean that half life 1 will look as good as half life 2, because its been reworked with the source engine?
can someone clarify?

yes.

i personally won't play hl: source because i want the newness of the source engine to be entirely hl2. then after i've beaten it, or have been playing it for a while, i'll revisit hl: source. i just feel the look/feel of hl2 could be spoiled by playing hl source.

Found this on jeux-france.com, a French website, so mind the bad translation.

Gabe Newel announced to him even a news which will make jump any amateur of FPS worthy of this name: it will be sold a bundle which will comprise of course Half-life 2 but also Half-life first of the name thus that all its mods (Fortress, Day of Defeat and Counter Strike)... who will be entirely customisés with the engine of HL2 for the occasion!

The development should be completed this summer, but we still remain in the expectancy on the level of the date of exit.

I wonder, will the expansion packs be on Source too? I'd like to get the complete experience.
