My 10-year-old son loves to watch me play. But lately, the kids who play are getting sicker and sicker spraypaints. It sort of ruins the fun of playing when you turn a corner into a picture of close-up of someone taking a dump.

It takes no talent to shock people if you're willing to sink that low. LOL

So ... I'd love for a server admin ability to ban someone from using their spraypaint. I don't want to ban such a person altogether ... just their spraypaint.

Just a suggestion ...

You can do what I do, and turn decals pretty much off :)

I'll look for the command for you!

Yes.. there is a command that disables spraypaint... wait for badger to find it, but i'm not sure if you need server control or not to enable it. If you're only client-side, you might need to disable ALL decals (bullet marks etc) but that kinda sucks.

Eitherway, I think theres a command like sv_allowdownload or sv_autodownload that will stop custom sprays coming to you

People taking a dump is mild compared to some of the stuff on there :O

cl_allowdownload 0 <- clientside, and will stop you downloading custom content i.e. sprays

cl_removedecals 1 <- will remove decals from whatever the crosshair is pointed at (I'm not sure if this works on sprays on )

r_drawdecals 0 <- no decals drawn at all

Anyway, that's all I could find swiftly.. sorry if it doesn't help!

EDIT: try mp_decals 0 as well :)

As far as i remember that's the whole point... they shock you then they kill you.

You won't believe some of the things i've seen...

It would be nice to see something original as a spraypaint. I am personally always too busy to pay much attention to them.

Except for the guy who editted a screen print of a Combine Soldier and used that as a spray. I emptied 2 mags into the wall before I realised and he jumped out and killed me...... razza frazza......

I dunno 'da yuff of today.

Pha+Z ... that is just hilarious!! LOL!

Thanks for the info, all.

What a bunch of shit. Why should you have a 10-year-old watch you playing a game that is intended for adults? So pictures of people taking a crap is bad for the kids, but if you get them to watch people being shot to death over and over and over is OK?

Idiot.

I think the point that really needs to be addressed here is one of common decency.

You cannot lock your study door (or wherever you PC lives). Anyone merely walking passed you as you play will glance at the screen and may see what is being displayed at that time.
Dont forget that some internet cafe's, which are open to the public Joe's of this world, who will look over your shoulder as you play, run this game and CS/CS:S, this is in the public domain where kids will watch.

The fact that someone wishes to use what ammounts to hard core porn as a spray paint should set alarm bells ringing.
I am sure that I am not the only member on this forum that thinks an image of another human being relieving themselves of waste food products, is both uneccessary and sick.

If that sort of thing "tickles your buiscuits" then talk to a therapist.

My kids will often watch whats going on on the screen. Whether they are just passing or waiting for me to get off so they can do homework. To them it's just a cartoon that dad has an element of control over. Or have you never seen the "itchy and scratchy" show on the Simpsons or even "Tom and Jerry" both, on at prime "kids" time, both take violence to the extremes. To my kids the gaming element is not real, it's fictional. The photo's used to create spraypaints are real.

Unfortunately some people think it is a big and clever thing to use such images. They are usually, just mindless, immature people with nothing better to do with their time, and should uninstall the game asap.

Dont get me wrong, I like a nice pair knockers as much as the next man, (no offence to any ladies here). There should be line drawn in the sand tho' that stops what ammounts to filth being projected into the game.

The game carries a 16 certificate to play it, not to watch it. The images being discussed by Rickdeckard would normally only be available for persons over the age of 18-21, (depending on country), to view if purchased in magazine or video/dvd format.

The fact that there is no current control to eliminate this problem at server level, means that the ability to include such images, brings argument for a reclassification of age restriction.
That is just not going to happen in a million years tho'.

It all boils down to moral standings and whether or not you have the ability to think rationally about the problem.

Ask yourself the questions:-
1. Is the image of someone having a crap, really going to affect someone in game so much that it will give you a tactical advantage. I think not.
2. Does it look nice? I think not. (if it does ...seek medical help asap)
3. Would you feel proud of what you have created, if Grandma was standing behind you? I think not.
4. Do you have a deep seated psychologically problem that occurred when you were dropped on your head as a baby? I think so.
5. Should you really be allowed an internet connection where such images are readily available? I think not.
6.Should you be fitted with a tracking device for use by the police to monitor your whereabouts? I think so.

I personally can live without these images, if you feel you cant live without your porn fix while playing (the game that is and not with yourself), for an hour or two, then get some help.

Oh, shut the hell up. Christ. You can't turn on the TV without seeing either reports of murder and killing or movies/TV shows showing it. Not to mention tubg*rl (edited so the forum doesn't censor) is a hell of a lot worse than just "Someone taking a crap".

And since when is CS intended for ADULTS?! Join a server. There are more teenagers on there by far than any other age.

Haha, and Pha+z, I have to dispute

Yesterday, someone on my server had a ******* spray; I couldn't pay attention to the game at all, I was too busy making sure I didn't see the spray :|

lmao...... I used to play competitively but my team always complained that I never responded to chat messages......

I am usually too engrossed in the game to see the spraypaints being used, so dont let them bother me.

I am a man.... Sitting - Breathing - and playing a game, thats three things at once.

Wow, I didn't intend to start a flame war here.

I can only say to Daverince that it is my choice what I let my kids see--not yours. When you use a spraypaint of a closeup of an an-us expelling its contents, then you are taking control over what they see, and I find your moral choices offensive. I didn't even want to ban you from a server, I merely wanted to take your power over what my kids see away from you, and leave it back with me.

But you might be right ... my son might turn into a homicidal maniac someday because I let him play HL2. You better stay away from him .... he's coming after yoooouuuuuuu!

I been playing computer games since defender. Never did me any harm.

Mind you I did used to dodge traffic on the M4 on the way to school, instead of using the subway. Maybe too much Frogger.

There is a strong difference here between the news and a 10 year old watching his dad playing violent simulations of reality.

I don't want to see porn during my games either, but I fail to see how it is much worse than watching repetitive violence at such a young age. And yes, I've played violent games from a fairly young age, but not as sophisticated and real looking as they look these days. I happen to think it's wrong to let young kids in on something that was quite obviously not intended for their eyes.

WiSiWyG - good come back. Tool.

lol whenever I see some mushrooms on the ground, I feel this strange urge to stomp on them- Maybe to much Mario?

Heheh ... I still fly through the crowds at malls like I'm the little spaceship in "Asteroids."

He's the parent, his decision I'm afraid.

Has anyone tried my console commands yet? :)

Public forum = loss of control = not his decision anymore

He can stop downloading sprays, but he'll want to mute voice and ditch the text chat as well, if he's serious about controlling everything his child experiences.

Good thing I don't have a chainsaw around, I might start thinking people are zombies and cut them in half!
Seriously daverince, almost all of us have been playing games since we were 7 or so, and we don't act much different from other people. We don't go around yelling "OMG L0LZ0R" in games or real life.
When we see another person, we don't go around searching for a weapon to headshot him with.

And 10 year old kids that see something that is in a box behind glass, KNOW that it's not real. (To speak in terms of computer games)
Gamers are normal people, no matter of their age. It's time you realize that.

Chavs on the other hand...

So ... I've been criticized for wanting to control too much, and I've been criticized for not controlling enough.

All I really wanted was to not see someone else pooping. Is that so unreasonable?

:D

I don't want to come off as some prude that thinks games or movies are responsible for violence - because I don't, and I get pissed at people (and the media) that think they do - but I still maintain that a ten year old shouldn't be watching deathmatch, for the reasons they shouldn't be watching animal porn before they are old enough to understand it fully.

And trust me, you do reach an age where you understand animal porn fully, ask my dad.

Blah blah blah. This is an endless debate.

Rick, no hard feelings, but I still think you're wrong. There's nothing wrong with a turd pooping out of someones anus mid match.

When we see another person, we don't go around searching for a weapon to headshot him with.

Speak for yourself.

(Oh, and I agree with the Chav comment).

No hard feelings Dav. I understand why some people might think it's wrong. All I can say is I know my son. Maybe not all 10-year-old boys are like mine. But I know that if my son actually saw a real person get shot, he would be freaked out and probably depressed and sick for weeks, just like I would. When he sees it happen in HL2DM, it doesn't bother him a bit.

And for the record I wasn't saying there is anything wrong with a pooping anus ... I only said it isn't as much fun for me when I have to look at it. LOL

Well, I for one agree with you Rick. Not that I'm the only one, but I'm surprised at the tongue lashing you are getting for a simple question. Every thing is open to discussion on a forum I guess.

I've been gaming for years. My daughters (now 15 and 11) have seen me play a great variety of games, with FPSers being the most prominent. I remove any gore that may be involved and view multiplayer the same way I do paintball, a game my daughters play with me. When it's a giant game of tag or elimination then there is no violence to be concerned about. I too have seen sprays I don't care to see, let alone my kids. I don't think wanting to reasonably control the environment my kids are in for their protection is remotely stupid regardless of the influences prevelant every where else today. I think it's just responsible parenting.

Sigged for ROFL.

I think that every person no matter what age that looks at that goes "WTF?"
