I am unable to play this game, for some reason. Steam keeps telling me I have to verify the game files, and then says that the servers are too busy. Deleting ClientRegistry.blob did nothing. Anybody have any ideas on how to remedy this problem?

Steam can't verify the game files for this mod because it isn't SteamWorks supported, so Steam has nothing to compare the mod too. What is it trying to validate exactly?
Does the rest of Steam work fine? Launching other OB games / playing online / friends network?
Are you sure you've downloaded the full mod and not just a patch? Have you tried extracting it again incase it corrupted first time round? (Delete 'Research and Development' folder in Sourcemods)

It's trying to validate the Research and Development "file."
As far as I know, the rest of Steam works. Also: I'm pretty sure it's the full mod and not just a patch (55ish MB, yeah?). Also: I'm pretty sure this is the third time I've installed the game; the first two times were from moddb, where I did extract it again. This would the third time, and from gamershell.
EDIT: well, 150ish MB in the folder.

I've only recently started getting around to mods for HL2. This one is just great, puzzles (especially to get the gravity gun) were fun. Best HL2 mod I've played so far, very well done.
No apologies really. That was another I recently tried and didn't even bother to finish it, only thing I thought was good was level design.
