Played through this again recently, wondering what people thought of the three sections. For me, it'd be a toss up between the Castle and the Island. I usually like the village, but this round it didn't feel quite as good as the rest. Overall, I'd probably say the Island. Krauser and It boss battles, chopper sequence, regenerators and the digger/truck chase.

i don't think i got past the village cos i'm a cock. i think i'm going to have a do on it RIGHT now

The village was the best part for me, followed by the castle.

The village was imo the most atmospheric part of the game, the most mysterious, unfortunately the experience kinda waters down after that, the story turns out to be generic, all the mystery is kind of gone, it just becomes a chase after the presidents daughter. I also like it probably because thats where I had my first experiences with RE4 and everything is funner when it's new and fresh.

I did not like the island that much to be honest, I liked the ruins, but for the rest I found it not to be as visually appealing as the castle or the village, and some of the enemies, like the Iron Maiden just drove me crazy.

some of my favorites part where the 2 prision looking places especially the second one,and the laboratory ones that reminded me the old RE's

the village, the atmosphere/setting was just so good. Going back into the main village area at night with the rain and thunder eek...

Man, i'm suprised i'm the only one that has voted for the castle so far. I liked the village a lot as well, but the castle was absolutely gorgeous, and the monk guys were very creepy. How about that one room with the reflecting pools and the flickering candles, that was absolutely beautiful.

Here's my rant, I feel the game really lost a lot when you got to the island. The area in general was very bland and none of that section seemed like a resident evil game, just a typical action game. I mean seriously, the whole section towards the very end with just loads of dumb enemies shooting their big chain guns while you are assisted by your friend in a helicopter...that's so far from what resident evil should be. The regenerators were cool, and I did like some of the underground stuff but I think the last third of the game was a big let down.

The more I think about it I really do like the village a lot, heading to the lake area while it's getting dark outside and starting to rain...so cool.

The whole experience is nothing like what a Resident Evil game should be. As much as I enjoyed RE4 it simply couldn't be classed as an RE game.

I'd love the Island if it werent for those guy that you need thermal sniper-thing to kill... I can't stand those guys... Because of those guys the Island is the worst... Worst enemy ever.

Best is the castle, funniest moments (Evil Little Guy: I'll send my right hand to dispose of you.. Leon: Your right hand comes off?), Best Boss Battles (The little guy mutated is a good one), Best Weapon introductions (Butterfly owns), just a really good atmosphere.. Those invisible things are cool, too.

I loved the village. The atmosphere is fantastic, the story is actually believable at the time, and shit hasn't gotten ridiculous yet. The island is quite cool, but the castle just bugs me :S

I have this nasty habit of starting really good games and loving them to death while simultaneously playing several other games at the same time. Eventually I end up devoting most of or all of my gaming to one game, and it just so happened it wasn't RE4 at the time. I stopped playing at the Castle Right Hand boss battle in the sewers. I have an RPG on me if I recall to kill him easily, but right now my GCN is upstate with my brother, the bum.

As for the three sections, while I can't comment at all on the Island, nor can I comment on the entire Castle (unless there isn't much after that boss battle, which I'm sure there is), I can safely assume my vote would go for the village.

I remember anticipating the game's release, watching videos on IGN and GameSpot, thinking how cool everything looked. Then I got the game, and I was alone at my house at the time. I was soooo scared. The daytime village environment isn't scary in a spooky way, it's scary in a "OMFG THERE'S SO MANY OF THEM AND SO MANY WAYS FOR THEM TO GET TO ME WTF WTF AMMO?" kind of way. I really really love how Capcom basically utilizes the player's fear and expects them to sit tight in a moderately secure house holding the villagers off until the invisible time limit expired. The first few times I attempted the first main battle sequence I had no idea, so I ran around into each house while narrowly avoiding their inhabitants, repeatedly getting flanked by the incredibly intelligent AI. Finally my cowardliness stepped in and I set up camp in a building close from the starting point and to the left, where the only way in was a single door and one window. As boring as it sounds, sitting there taking a few shots every other 20 seconds as the villagers tried to enter and listening to them shouting outside the house was so satisfyingly horrifying in a way I can't describe any better.

OMG don't even get me started on the bandaged female chainsaw beeyotches. They were by far the scariest enemies up to that point, and actually, may well be one of the scariest foes. I don't know about you, but gross looking maidens and housewives wielding instant death chainsaws and growling in a weird European manner is extremely frightening.

Playing through first time now, just got inside the Castle. Good to know there's still a good bit of game ahead. :)

So far it's all good. Except for a couple evil bits which I'm sure will seem like childsplay compared to what I'm in for...

The train sectio- Oh wait.

I absolutely adored the Village sections, the atmosphere was spot on and the gameplay/bosses were quite loveleh.

The Castle on the other hand... just plain sucked. That little annoying guy with the accent pissed me off to no end, the place stunk of b-grade horror (more so than the other sections), the music sucked etc. Only redeeming factor was the last boss and the right hand guy in the sewers (so intense :o).

The Island was much better, loved the regenerators in that "shit your pants" kind of way, and there were a heap of "**** this is awesome" moments.

(RE0's train section ftw!)

Village section, mainly because it's a bit of a challenge the first time you played against the overwhelming odds and you're not fully comfortable with the controls yet. Also, it was the first time I met Chainsaw dude... and let's just say, there was something else hitting the floor at the same time as my jaw.

I haven't seen such gratuitous violence on a main character in a long ass time.

Yeah, that chainsaw death actually shocked me a little bit the first time it happened. Also could've had something to do with the fact that I was retreating from a crowd of about 10 torch-wielding villagers when he showed up coming from the other direction. Of course a clip or two full of ammo didn't phase him, and he quickly backed me into the corner of a room and zzzzip! Ouch.

Speaking of violence of main characters, that's something I've been wanting to see in games more. You always see detailed locational damage on enemies, but why should your guy be spared? I wanna see some fingers get blown off! Then maybe he gets hit in the shoulder and he can't use that arm, limiting you to one-handed weapons. This is the kind of thing they should be edging towards with "next gen" games (IMO).

The castle was the best. Those monks were creepy and the boss was also the toughest in the game, way harder than the last boss of the game. The village was cool, I liked the lake monster and the huge village fight at the beginning of the game. Actually I loved the entire game but if I just had to pick one I'd say the castle.

I beat the final Castle boss in under a minute. Far too easy.

Ehh. Maybe. It could be really good in some games, but I don't think it is something they need to aim for, because it isn't something that could always work. I think if anything they need to start focusing on gameplay now, rather than trying to keep a game running on combat.

True that. But I meant that kind of thing, not that in particular. And yes I realise how vague that is. I wrote that post in under a minute :P

i'm on my way through the game now and i must say....some of the boss fights are epic. that big **** off whale thing and now i've just killed that giant paedophile that tries to crush you all the time

loving it so far

LOVING it

lol, the first time I faced him I figured I'd be facing a boss because of the merchant right outside of the tower, so I bought a rocket launcher, and beat him withing like 10 seconds, first try...

Well I had very scarce ammo, and ran out early in the fight. I had to go down and kill those spiders to get ammo. Also his one hit kill attack was pretty annoying.

Yeah. It gets hard when you are low on ammo and without the Rocket Launcher.

Atmosphere of the village, but the castle for the gameplay.

I think the best thing of the whole game and sure everyone will agree

is the chaisaw dudes

everytime I heard a chainaw I got scared

Very few votes for the Island. Criminal.

Add another one up for me. The village and the castle wern't that great, but the Island is what really nabbed the game for me.

i'm at the bit now where i'm on that big truck thing on the island and loads of shit heads are coming from behind and i have to hold them back

island is a bit annoying to be honest because the ammo to OMG THE AMOUNT OF BAD GUYS IS STUNNING ratio is unbelieveable and i proper enjoyed all the game up to now but i find myself getting pissed off because of the lack of ammo

The game has a dynamic difficulty, it has a actually 7 difficulty settings instead of the 3 or 2 presented to you and the game constantly configures itself to how you play, how much ammo and health you have. So don't worry just get trough and the game will spawn ammo for you.
