Resistance 2 Review

#1 is one of the few PS3 games I've played (co-op), was great.
I expect this'll be good fun too.

They never interested me, they just looked like Gears of War, but during WW2 era. Wasn't the first removed from shelves because of that stupid church thing?

Much less cliched than GoW story wise and more original and fun weapons.

But with really generic pont and click gameplay. RFOM was ok in a no brainer kind of way - I expect more from the sequel.

**** that looks fantastic.
I wanna play the new ratchet & clank

Nice, I am looking forward to this and I really am enjoying the beta.

Looks "good" but im really disappointed they separated the coop.

Aye, we've got Resistance pre-owned and it's pretty bland. No a bad game by any means, just a retread of everything we've already seen in the FPS genre. Some of the weapons were kinda cool though.

I think the second looks really good, but I can't say I'm sold on it yet.

How is it less cliched? Aliens invading Earth, blackops taking you in at ending, americans saving the day etc, I could go on.

It's a rather interesting alternate history rather than your average space opera. The chimera are rather ambiguous, it's not even clear if it's an alien invasion or human experiments with alien tech gone out of control.
There's no orbital bombardment, enemy dropships bull etc. but it still makes sense.

Also Americans didn't save the day, they picked up a survivor. The UK still got ****ed.

Actually the Gears story, or at least the setting, isn't all that bad. I liked what I read of the background in the art book. It's just... buried under tons of testosterone and grit.

From the survivors point of view they probably saved his day, no?

Well yeah, but one character being saved while the rest of what you fought for get ****ed isn't that big a cliche.

Exclusive reviews ftl.

I'll probably rent it for the SP as I don't have my ps3 online.

I loved the first resistance. I thought it had a really good story for an FPS, very solid gameplay for a console and I thought the weapons were also very good. Throw in quality co-op and it was a winner in my book. Every gun you get has a use throughout the entire game.

I'm very excited for part 2. I've still got Far Cry keeping me busy, but this is the only other game I plan on getting for the forseeable future. Looks like they improved things pretty much across the board.

Why all those review sites use the 8 to 10 scale? For them all games are near perfection, an average game always gets over 8... and most hyped games over 9. Someone who is not involved in the gaming industry, by visiting these sites thinks there are tons of amazing and perfect games.

I think a 1 to 5 scale would be better.

I like the 1-10 scale, the problem are the reviewers. An average game (the large majority of games) should get a 5, not an 8. In the mind of who follow those sites a 7 is a bad game, when in reality should be seen as a good one.

I'm not talking about Resistence, i never played it, perhaps deserves a almost 10 score, don't know. But every damn time i see a review of a hyped game it always gets a perfect score.

I like the PC Gamer scale of 1-100. Yes, hyped games usually do better than 90% or so, but for most games it is pretty effective and I have loved games that drop into the 60s and even the 50s on occasion.

That said, Resistance 2 does look MUCH better than the first one. I love the different environments and the weapons are always very cool. I also like the alternate history and the giant enemies. I don't play a lot online with my consoles, but if I decide to, this and Motorstorm 2 and GTi Club would be the most popular choices I think, along with the assumed LBP mayhem of course. :P

Also, it can't be stressed enough how bad I suck at FPS games on consoles. I desperately need a keyboard and mouse to avoid total embarrassment. :cheese:

I think at this point there's not really any way to use the 1 to 10 scale without attaching a stigma to it. The way review sites tend to use it is too cemented into people's minds now, instead of where a particular score actually rests on the scale. 7 is average, 8 is good, 9 is excellent and 10 is put up on such a high pedestal that when a game actually achieves it, it's inevitably disappointing (*cough* GTA). It's less about the intent of the score and more about how people view it now - a 3/5 would be acceptable, but a 6/10 would be an instant dismissal, even though they're essentially the same score. Although, if I were to review games I'd rate them on a scale of 1 to 3 - bad, average or great. Let the writing speak for itself, the score is only meant to be a feeling point.

Anyway, DEEEERAAAAAILED. Um, yeah. Never played Resistance, but I like Insomniac's other games, sooo... I guess it could be good.

Yay PS3! :D

I don't see how the game is so cliched. Because it has aliens?

Too bad they aren't aliens, play the whole game before you judge it.

I wanna play the new ratchet & clank

Quite fun, if we are talking about the newest one for the PS3. Not the one where Clank is a James-Jond wannabe, the other one with him & Ratchet. Very colorful & fun.

btw... "We didn't start the fire" rocks.
