Resistance vs. Combine Mod

Hi all!

I dident know where 2 post this as the "editing forums" seem to be more about the actual building of mods

Anyways. I am announcing that Resistance vs. Combine is still going ahead even after the release of HL2 Deathmatch. Infact its helped us more than anything

But its no secret that the HL2:DM team mode is, put simply, crap. Its laggy, disjointed and totally pointless due to lack of objectives, although we could argue that thats what deathmatch is all about!

We are currently developing our maps in Half life 2 deathmatch so we can use the team structure and spawn entities etc. By the end of the mod we aim to have a Base Capture mode. That works abit like ut 2k3s Double Dom system, but this time you have to stay in a building or zone for 60 seconds, at least you and 1 other member, then it is captured for your team. Once all 3 points on the map are captured the team who achived this wins.

We are also going to add a buy system, to put more emphasis on teamplay and the importance of not dieing, although i assure you that it wont be as punnishing as Counter Strikes buy system!

Once dead , you can only respawn after a 10 second timer reaches 0

A refined version of team deathmatch is being concidered. With the buy mode.

Vechicles are a real concept we are toying with at the moment, although dont expect them to be in the first build!

We have 1 map almost complete. All screenies will be uploaded to our webspace.

Screenshots

Also register on our Forum to show your support! We will keep the community update constantly via those forums. Although they dont look too great at the time of writing because I have litrally just put them up

All questions about the mod i will answer on our "ask the team" section of our forums

Best Regards

So basically it will be Res. vs. Combine in a DoD type capture system? Sounds cool.

Are you going to make players more vulnerable, so that you don't have to empty five magazines into your opponent?

Spartan...do you ever contribute anything to this community other than a pessimistic attitude? I don't think i've ever seen a comment from you that wasn't negative...unless you count a backhanded compliment as positive (and i'd be hard pressed to identify even that).

If you dislike HL2 so much, why do you spend so much time on these boards? Can't you find anything more productive to do?

What the **** is your problem, retard? I was just asking if they are going to change something. If change is such a problem to you, I suggest you stay away from mods.

You're starting a flamewar in an otherwise neutral thread. Can't you find anything more productive to do?

*ahem*
No fighting on my thread please

please post any surgestions on our forums. It gives me and the team a place to focuss on getting ideas from. Instead of 10 half life 2 forums.

Thanks

i understand spartan had a run in with some people here the other day now leave it, his post was merely guidence to help...constructive critism if you please. Give him a break!

You can only get away with the, 'What's your problem, i'm only saying..." defense a few times - after that it gets old. I've seen Spartan reply to many, many threads, and never in a constructive, positive, or enlightening manner.

But hey, maybe it's just me being retarded...

I think that's why there's a crosshair...

I'm assuming you're exaggerating.

Players having enough health to withstand firepower that would kill a bison is a classic element of deathmatch games. That way you don't spend all your time sneaking around trying not to be seen, peaking around corners slowly, camping with the smg, etc. Makes the game go faster.

Again, what is your problem? I'm just asking a simple question about the mods game mechanics, and you go on a pre-teen tantrum and start accusing me of being unconstructive while you're staging a flamewar.

Are you guys thinking about adding classes in the future? (Anti-vehicle, assault, scout, sniper)

Weapon balance wouldn't be hard, since both sides would have the same weapons. Plus, it would be more team oriented instead of everyone running out to pick up the rpg/irifle.

I suggest adding a game modifier option that have realistic or classic DM HP, cater to both tastes.

I have been begging for a Resistance vs. Combine mod :)

Classes would be great (in my notes for a suggestion thread already) and also objective maps, assault/defend maps, push maps, and most importantly--Conquest/Control Point maps like DoD and BF1942.

I think the key for a LONG game life is teamwork. Note DoD, CS, and TFC. They all have something in common: Teamwork.

You can do some kewl stuff... e.g. make a laser "marker" (which can be done) for the "spec ops/Scout" and allow another player, either a vehicle OR a "Anti-Armor" class shoot a projectile.

That way the "Anti-Armor" can shoot unguided, but with the help of a teammate can shoot farther away and be dead accurate.

I can see it now... a scout turns on his 3 second cloak, paints a laser marker and finds cover, the Anti-Armor fires and takes out the main group only for the Assault guys coming in to clean up and take the point.

All kinds of posibilities... and the sides could be VERY different weapon and strategy wise. And most of the core texture assets, weapons, models, etc... are already provided.

The key will be good ideas down first and then some great mappers, skinners, modelers, and coders who can bring it to life. Good luck!

An easy way to add classes semi-transparently is to use the existing models. If you don't mind a bit of sexism, the female resistance fighter runs faster but can't use the RPG while the older guy with the beard can drive, etc. Same with combine. Relatively subtle differences that add flavor instead of punishing a team for lacking class X.

This is pretty much the same as HL2DM with teamplay enabled.

But looks good anyway...

I think the combine should be able to use manhacks and the resistance antlions...that would be the coolest think ever. and there should be a headcrab gun. thats my two cents for today!

Reverting back to the previous argument, it's the Spartans of the world that actually help move things forward rather than the rest who sit around either completely moaning or perhaps doing nothing except waiting for your next fix in silence.

Personally I suggest you do anything that completely takes away the emphasis on people throwing radiators at each other in a hell hole spam fest, ...which goes onto my next question. Is it possible to have a capture point system , i.e more than one base to capture?

Unfortunately, fun as it is .... losing the gravity gun is the only way you will get any structure, unless perhaps you have them in fixed positions somehow in order to build barracades objectively, removing the spam fest.
It still sounds like a great idea, as in my opinion HL2DM is very pointless and gets boring way too easy. It reminds me of an old HL1 mod in beta phase on a 56K connection.

Disclaimer: This was not a dig, flame or attack to any particular individual ,person, skitzo side kick, pet mammal, relative, guardian angel or pet headcrab.
