resolution problem i think

ive been playing half life 2 with no problems and for some reason i tried to change the resolution in the game to the highest setting. the screen went black and never came back. i restarted it and it started up black but with sound. i also tried redownloading it with steam with no luck. any ideas?

try putting -width 800 –height 600 into Launch Options. this should allow you to start the game. you should re-select the old video mode once you get in, then you can thake these commands back out

if that doesn't work, delete \Valve\Steam\SteamApps\...\half-life 2\hl2\cfg\config.cfg

this will delete all your settings, though

hey meganox i have the same problem and i tried what youve said and alhtough the game seems to start at that resolution (the desktop resolution flashes and changes) but when the game gets into the intro thing in the beggining the resolution stays the same and i cant see a damn thing.....any ideas???
