Retail stores....

...seem to know even less than us about HL2.

I was quite surprised to find that none of the stores in the UK that I have spoken to know about the different retail versions of the game...and therefore cannot tell me what version I would be pre-ordering.

So I have decided to wait until the game is actually on the shelves before buying.

Is this the same everywhere?? or just a UK thing?

To be fair, when describing the different editions Gabe said something like 'my current thinking is ...' - so maybe Valve aren't sure just yet either.

Gabe Newell has to be really careful about waht he says,
Because everyone takes everything he says exactly word for word.

Retail stores know less then we do because they don't read these forums or interviews from the people at Valve and just go by judgement.

mmmm

does make me a little worried....

what is it.. 13 days to release?

You would have thought it was all being boxed / shipped / all that business by now if it was gonna make the release date...

A lot of people are going to be VERY annoyed (including myself) if this release date slips.... I have just spent £700 on a new computer system...

If the release slips.. I could probably have saved some money by buying later!!!

I had the same problem, when I asked at my local Game whether they knew anything about the three Half Life 2 SKUs, they looked at me blankly, thinking I was talking about the PS2 and X-Box versions.

It seems that they will be selling it at the same price as amazon.co.uk (£24.99) if pre-ordered. Does anyone by any chance know which version amazon will be selling?

but what if stores are saying it will be out on NOV and it comes on SEPT30th they will still sell it won't they? THEY BEST!

ive ordered from both agme and amazon...

Neither have a clue...

Come on valve.. sort it.

i ordered back in august... from EBx... they have their date set for sept30th for the single+multi box version.

Hey man i pre-ordered from Amazon.co.uk and I emailed them a while ago about the different SKUS. Below are my emails and the replies.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have recently pre-ordered the PC Game Half-Life 2. However since my
order, the creators of the game have announced that there will be 3
different boxed versions. One will have single-player only and no
multiplayer. The second will have both single-player plus
multiplayer. The third is the collector's edition.

It is very important to me that the game that is finally delivered to
me is the one with both Singleplayer and Multiplayer support. Will I
be given an option to choose nearer release? How will this work?

Thanks

Richard White

Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry.

I apologise for the delay in responding to your e-mail message.
Please be assured that all of us here are working very hard to provide
a thorough, personal reply to each of our customers as quickly as
possible.

I have contacted the ordering specialist and as per their
information, currently we list this item in multiplayer version.

Further, we do appreciate that sometimes the amount of information we
have may make it difficult to make a purchasing decision unless you
already know something about the item. Please know that our editorial
staff are constantly working on increasing the information we provide
about each item as it becomes available to us.

At present, the information we provide about a particular software or
video game is displayed on the detail page for that item. Usually, we
have the title and release date. Sometimes we have a short synopsis,
review and an image of the cover.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

So looks like they're stocking the sp/mp version.

Yea, they will still sell it. They'll usually do pre-orders first tho.

Anyone on the board working for a retailer that would stock HL2? Or have a friend who does? Or in a distribution center? Or anywhere in the HL2 production chain?

crumbles.

Thanks for your help Farmer, I was going to e-mail amazon myself, but you've saved me the trouble :0). I'll pre-order it from them now.

speaking to the company I worked for (large UK retailer), the multimedia buyer had only heard of the standard edition and when I asked her about the Collectors edition she didn't know though she reckoned it would be after xmas (I hope bloodly not!!).

just thought I'd add that when it comes to stock, most retailers always get them a couple of days early. IE DVD / CD / Video releaes for Monday come on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the latest.

Multimedia when its released on a Friday would normally be sent via (well for the stores I've worked in anyway) GEM, Pinnacle or Centresoft and arrive on Wednesday / Thursday.

Half life 2 is released on Tuesday 30th, so shops would have to get AT the latest the stock on Monday. Vivendi would have to dispatch the stock to all the distributors like Centresoft who in turn would have to send the stock out to retailers (I'm pretty sure of this anyway).

What I'm trying to get is Wednesday 24th next week really is the time I would of thought when all stock would have to be ready, shrinkwrapped, done and dusted ready to be sent down the supply chain.

All purely gusses based on previous releases of other titles.

If I'm inaccurate or anyone else has any other experience with the suppliers please share!

I sent a email to amazon.co.uk a loooooo(x3000)ng time ago (I pre-ordered from them aswell) They sent me a email telling me they will look into it and contact me soon.
