Retail Version - CD compulsory?

Ok, this has probably been asked before but hope you can help.

Is there a way that I can play HL2/CS:S without having to put the CD in? I brought the retail version of HL2.

I also brought the retail version of CS (not source) and I dont need the CD to play this - all I need to do is log onto Steam.
