reverting to the old crosshair while joystick mode is active?

is this possible? i've tried to google for a crosshair cvar that would let me do this, believe me, but i've come up empty. the crosshair you get in joystick mode (and on consoles) is pretty ugly by my standards, so it'd be nice to use a controller with the old one
