Richard Dawkins to Appear on the O'Reilly Factor

Holy crap THIS is going to be interesting.

Dawkins: Well hello, I'm charmingly British

O'Reilly: *Yells incomprehensibly* *slings poo*

If I wanted to vomit, I'll put my hand down my throat. It'd be easier than watching Bill O'Reilly be a douche.

lol his letters section is hilarious ..click the good the bad and the ugly ...natuarlly click on coulters ugly face

"Dear Asshole,

Wow I guess you are a brilliant man aren’t you? You believe that in depriving the world of a belief that has persisted since the dawning of man can better it and make it freer, more enlightened, and more peaceful? The answer is: no, it can’t ...."

"you suck.. go burn in hell.. Satan Will Enjoy torturing you.. what happened mum didnt pay enough attention to you so you decided to rebel.. I hope for your own sake you see your grave mistake and repent.. God Dwells among as everyday.. you are the spawn of evil.

i COFLED HAHAHAHA..

this one is a bit disturbing...
From John Doe:

Dawkins, you and your atheist friends cannot win. America WILL become a Christian Republic even if we have to write a whole new constitution. Millions of us are dedicated to this righteous cause. We will suceed. And then we will invade godless countries like "Great" Britain and kill all of your heathens. First we need to take care of things at home and in the Middle East but we will get around to Europe. You Godless freaks will die but then you will roast in hell for infinite time. Goodbye you loser.

im not really sure about the speicifics but i do know that there are churches in america like mosaic , Valley Bible Fellowship etc. whose congregations are literally comprised of thousands and thousands of people that share this skewed perspective on reality. when i say skewed i'm not talking about just a belief in god, but a belief in this fairy tale means of existence where all things perpetuate through faith and misguided perseverance. so it really isn't a far stretch .

scarier are those who hold positions of power ..the christian taliban

Dr. Alma Golden: appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Population Affairs. A Texas pediatrician, she is a longtime proponent of abstinence as the only acceptable means of birth control...

Tom Coburn: Former Republican congressman and anti-condom crusader. Appointed co-chair of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS. While in congress Coburn tried to force condom manufacturers to label condoms as "ineffective" against the spread of sexually transmitted infections....

"I would like to outlaw contraception...contraception is disgusting -- people using each other for pleasure." -Joseph Scheidler, Pro-Life Action League

"I don't think Christians should use birth control. You consummate your marriage as often as you like -- and if you have babies, you have babies." Randall Terry, Operation Rescue
its almost like they dont even pause to consider the implications of what they are saying.

Guess you haven't met hte church of christ...if they got the chance they'd kill you if you were a man with long hair, all because some arcaic book says its a sin.

This is a good one from Dawkins site:

blasfemy!!! Right now you are rotting on the inside... But you must
now (sic) that there is indeed a God! A great god! And he will forgive you if you regret from your ****ing behavior. And you should realise thatyour entire life has been a delusion...and that right now your destiny is all ****ed up! ****ing atheist!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see this being a painful-to-watch trainwreck - Dawkins wont be able to get a word in edgeways, O'Reilly will scream over everything he says and when he does lay the verbal smackdown on O'Reilly it'll be edited out.

I'm not from US, is there any chance to see this show on the internet? (posting FOX shows on youtube.com is restricted).
Richard Dawkins FTW!

Shit, Gick's right. They're going to edit out all the good stuff.

I'm sure they will be posted but deleted after a while.. I'm hoping to catch it.

The link on top doesn't seem to be working right now, when is this set to happen? I might have to stomach watching O'Reilly to actually catch this. $5 says he cuts his mic off like he did not so long ago to a retired 29 year veteran.

Bill O'Reilly is a lying scumbag; I can't believe he still has a show in all honesty. He twists and changes stories week in, week out, he has the FOX show transcripts changed just to make him-self look better. His “debates” are atrocious, usually full of Ad Hominem, Straw-Man, Appeal to Belief, Authority, Bandwagon, hell, nearly all of his arguments are fallacious in some respects (“I’m right because my show won two peabodies”, when in fact he didn’t win any peabodies). Not only that he has the gall to call his show the “No spin zone”or“Fair and balanced!? What a complete joke he is. An intellectual like Dawkins shouldn’t lend weight to Bill O’Reilly, I would prefer it if he wasn’t going on the show.

the factor is a live show:hmph:

I imagine this is going to be one that they edit, given that I can't imagine Dawkins doing anything but making O'Reilly look like a ****head.

God Bill O'Reilly is an idiot.
"I saw Appolo he's over there" he didn't even try to defend his religon.

I wouldn't defend my religion either, it's idiotic to have a conversation trying to prove/disprove peoples beliefs... it's an endless debate and a waste of time. They're called beliefs for a reason, religion is based on faith not on theories, how can you really disprove faith?
These kind of interviews are really stupid in my opinion.
On topic though. It was a lot less hostile environment than i thought it would be, that's always nice.:)

You don't disprove faith, you simply dismiss it.

And I highly doubt you understand what Einstein is talking about in your sig either, tip: Einstein didn't believe in god.

here's the interview:

I think interviews like this are a necessity in the world we live in today. If you can't "prove" your religion, then this fact needs to be highlighted to the rest of the world, and hopefully one day the message will hit home. The days in which faith-based discourse and ideas are treated as legitimate need to come to an end. This bullshit rhetoric about how "atheists need more faith than theists" needs to stop. Not only is it ridiculous, but it's confusing. Faith is supposed to be a good, virtuous thing, or at least that's the way it seems when religious apologetics are greeted with scientific evidence that goes against their views. Spinning it around against atheists is a very strange accusation.

"Being humble is a Christian virtue". Don't make me vomit. You can't say crap like that and then turn around and list off atheist murderers as if the deranged lunacy of a few unbelievers had anything to do with a lack of belief in God. And Hitler was not a confirmed atheist. There is much speculation as to what his true religious affiliations were, but he would time and time again fall back on Christianity. He would denounce it at other times as well, but the point is that his moral fiber cannot be traced to anything religious, at least to any significant degree.

Bill : Logic = Pizza : Mayonnaise

What I can't believe is that Dawkins didn't counter the point about everything appearing to have been perfectly arranged in the universe.
I mean, has Bill not heard of the Anthropic principle?

Such explanations would take well beyond the allotted time they have for an interview.

I hate the US media in that regard. BBC does much better with giving people the time to speak.

It's a shame he did not counter 'O Reilly's statement that it takes more faith to believe we just lucked out, since Dawkins in his books especially addresses the point that if you believe god created everything you do not address the problem, you just multiply it by a million times, since you then have to explain how god himself came to be, and if you say he just existed of was created out of nothing then that is an infinitely bigger leap of faith. Not that Believing in what atheist do requires any leap of faith, but lets keep it simple.

I'm disapointed, O'Reillys arguments are just stupid and he is also bad moderator. Argument like Hitler was an atheist is wrong and it is an often-presented but specious argument against atheism. Also all Founding Fathers were not religious, just like Dawkins said, O'Reilly even don't know history of his country.
