It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]. It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair.

I'd be worried if it were anyone else

I think part of the awesomeness of the first one was the mystery that the image of that giant thing created in your mind. I don't know if I like the idea of fleshing it out more fully for today's brainless and unimaginative ADHD audiences. Well, what do you expect when he is talking to MTV.COM FFS.

"MTV Imagines The Kick-Ass Stars Of An 'Alien' Prequel"

Ridley Scott doing it definitely adds some weight to it but still this is just unneeded and I don't want to know what the space jockey is!! :flame:

Then don't watch it?

what happened whit the times when people made new movies?

the space jockey creeps me the **** out

interested to see where this goes

Scott: I always said I'll never do a sequel. [Laughs.]

MTV: What made you change your mind?

Scott: Honestly? They've squeezed the franchise dry.
The first one will always be the most frightening, because the beast we put together with Giger and all its parts
— the face-hugger, the chest-burster, the egg
— they were all totally original, and that's hard to follow.
... I've always avoided sequels, unless I felt there was something fresh.

What he's really saying is: "They turned this franchise to shit, I'll attempt to fix it."

Hopefully he will succeed.

Also surprised to hear in that interview that Giger is still alive.

Wow, Giger is in on it too, i thought he was totally done with films but that's great news.

I was about to come in here and post how this is a terrible idea and that it doesnt even matter if Ridley Scott was making it because it would still suck...

but Giger is back? Definitely going to see it.

Oh yay, we get to see the mysterious and eerie space jockey lose it's purpose as something mysterious and eerie.

I don't know how to feel about this. It's somewhat reassuring that Ridley is trying to put back the old crew together for this movie. However, his recent movies haven't exactly made a lasting impression on me, to be honest. The last movie of his that i really enjoyed was Matchstick Men. Take away Nicolas Cage's performance though, and all you have left is another mediocre and forgettable feature. Kingdom of Heaven was a big disappointment to me. Sure, it had some good performance's but the overall movie didn't really deliver. American Gangster was overhyped, overrated and poorly paced. It was just an excuse to put Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe in the same damn movie.
Body of Lies was Ok but it did somewhat poorly at the box office.

Honestly, i just don't see the point in making another Alien movie unless he is taking us to the Alien's home world and revealing to us the few mysteries that are left. Like the Disc Jockey and the Alien's origin, for example.
It's been sucked dry if, you ask me. Not to mention that the Aliens vs. Predator movies left
a very bad aftertaste that i have yet to get rid off.

I would prefer space jockeys origins remain a mystery.

We've all been burned with journeys into origins before.

Obi-wan with an incredibly nostalgic, painful, deep expression on his face: "He was the best star pilot in the galaxy.. "
/visions of an 8 year old kid flying into a droid battleship and accidentally bringing victory to Naboo with random button pressing and "oops" quotes.

Before the prequel trilolgies the origins behind that statement invoked such deep imaginings for all us! Not a ****ing retarded little shit kid accidentaly flying a ****ing n1 starfighter. Just **** that. ****ed my imagination royally.

I don't know! Good luck Ridley. The good side is it may untarnish the Aliens name after the horrible, disgusting smearing of this universe by the Alien vs PRedator films. A

Sure it could turn out to be a disappointment but if you were going to make another alien film then this is the best possible line up. Scott directing and writing with Giger providing all things alien and phallic.

Actually, the best possible line-up would be James Cameron directing a sequel to Aliens. This is a close second.

I don't see how having the guy who designed the aliens is going to make this any better.

This is a terrible idea, absolutely terrible.

How is trying to fix the alien franchise a bad idea? True it could end up being horrendous, but it could also wash away at least some of the shit this series has covered itself with.

The damage is irreparable.

When you have Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and the AVPs clinging to the franchise then I think it's safe to say that it's lost.

Giger has raped your soul, that'll be $5 please.

Then don't watch it?

You know that just ain't an option, man.

A month after the prequel release there's gonna be a spoilerfag on a forum somewhere who will be like "I'm sure with this political contention on the state of affairs in the Middle East we can draw an analogy to the scene in Alien 0 where the space jockey fistpounds Bill Paxton from the future-" and the pistol-sucking will commence.

Aside from thinking it's a bad idea, the film better have early model Uncanny Valley Androids, and the goddamn design of everything better not look more Hi-tech than the stuff in Alien.

I didn't read the article... did he say what he was planning on doing with the movie? As in, would it be survival-horror, sci-fi, action, or some conglomeration of these? A muscal even?

That depends, on your definition of good now doesn't it.

I find it pretty hilarious that stupid people either a) dislike Lindelof simply because of the LOST finale, ignoring the other dozens of episodes he wrote or b) cannot wrap their minds around the idea that he could write something different like any writer can.
