Riot Act Mod Released

The Half-life 2 single player mod Riot Act has been released today. You play the role of Jamil Lee, a young member of the civilian resistance, taken by the Combine and currently prisoned in Nova Prospekt. This mod is almost a continuation of the Nova Prospekt levels from Half-life 2. All the fast paced ant-lion / combine soldier slaughter and close quarter combat.[br]

Pretty cool, I noticed one small bug for the little bit I played, but it seemed to dissappear after a minute, so I dunno.

The game is amazingly detailed, the music is great, and is actually challenging at points. The only real flaw is that it's relatively short.

Q: I can't install it! It keeps me saying that I don't have Steam installed!

A: You can fix it, do as follows:
1. Open regedit
2. Locate your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valve\Steam directory
3. Right click on the right pane a create a new "string value"
4. Name it "InstallPath" without the quotes
5. Right click on in and modify it: put you Steam installation path, should be something like C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\
6. Restart the installer

Why should we have to edit our registry to install a mod? Having played PC games and modifications for ten years now, this will be the first I've had to open RegEdit to play. Well, in all honesty, I won't be playing it as a result.

I'm pretty sure this is only needed if Steam isn't installed properly.

that's obviously a workaround for people whose steam installation has some problems.. it's NOT the default setup method

He's got a pretty good idea going on here. Perhaps Riot Act is a prequel to something bigger the developer has in mind.

nice

played this one through. i was impressed, especially with the voices and music. it was like the thrill of hl2 all over again. +hdr which is nice.

only problems were that one of the woman civilians had a man's voice. and at the end when facing the strider i had to turn on godmode because the strider's blue ultra beam thing would kill me in one hit no matter where i was, if i took cover or if i sprinted super fast.

finished it, good mod overall mainly due to the level design imo among the best I've seen for hl2.

The part with the APC was a bitch I had to god mode through that...

Also the part with the strider at the end, it kept killing me with the blue beam before I could manage to get off the ladder so I had to god mode that too.

It's an average mod. I enjoyed some of the parts. In other words, I still prefer good old Half-Life mods.

Surprisingly good mod, the last part was probably the best because of the lack of enemies compared to the previous parts with lots of Combine encounters. It was a relief to say least.

Anywho, I'd like to see a continuation for Riot Act.

lol that started to get on my tits after about the 10th time .. although I got up to a loading point and it decided to freeze and I had to reboot .. will continue it again later though, was really enjoying it though :thumbs:

Dunno what's going on, this and another mod won't even run...I double click and the valve logo shows, then the blurred load screen pops up and everything goes away (except for steam...which stays open).

Anyone gotta any suggestions? Can't figure this crap out...HL2DM and all the other lot work just fine...

Awesome mod IMO.

Very good modification, nice puzzles, many enemies! Though some bugs, glitches:
- Strider keeps killing me with blue laser,
- Jamal, ammo! guy
- When you fight the Antlion guard, you can fall into the pit where it came from, and if u crouch it cant kill you, you can kill him, but its impossible to get out from the pit without noclip
- the NPC after the 2 Gunship battle may have 2 voices (HL2 voice, and your recorded voice)
I pointed these out for Riot Act 1.1

A very good mod. Great level design, great music, the only issue I though was that some of the spawn points could have been hidden better, I had antlions sitting at a point just killing the guards when they appeared.

Just finished it. I also wonder if they used the name 'Jamil' after Jamil Mullen.

I managed to get around the strider's blue beam o' death by turning the difficulty down from Hard to Medium just long enough to be able to hit the switch to call the tram. From that point on you can use Hard w/o an issue.
