Rip Off

Oi Yank you can see gas guzlers from a distance, %99.9 of games play ok without internet, people don't buy HL2 knowing this and the specs for HL2

Then they, along with you, are idiots for not reading the box.

doesnt say it, Im looking at mine now, in the small spec boxes the last one sais OTHER-internet connection, DVD-Rom drive, it doesn't shout at you like big cars do.
idiot.

Translation: "Unless this information is shouted at me in big, blowing, neon lights, it doesn't register into my brain."

That crucial information was available to you. The problem isn't that it's a rip-off. It's that you're an idiot consumer. Won't even get into plausible-yet-retarded idea that somebody who can afford PC gaming can't afford an internet connection. You assumed the internet connection was only needed for Counter-Strike. Sounds like a problem on your end.

Sincerely,
The Yank

Ill admit to not reading the small print, are you that perfect you've never done it, I guess so.

I've forgotten often, but I learned to check them by now. If it says internet connection required... well, it's not rocket science as to what they're trying to say by that.

I can see Steam is like a mother to some, to those children that are upset by this I'm sorry, but I'm still glad Steam isn't my mum.

No, I've certainly overlooked things that bit me in the ass later, but I recognize that as my fault. I don't accuse the product maker of ripping me off when I'm the one who ****ed up.

If putting a legal copy of HL2 on my kids laptop is wrong, how can that be wrong, I guess you can afford several games, I cant so putting a paid disc on my kids laptop makes sense to me and then getting the Steam stuff come up, did wind me up and still does.

The solution to your problem was already posted: give him you Steam account information. If you don't want to do that, then buy him a copy of his own. If you don't want to do any of that, then you are shit out of luck. Software piracy is a real thing and these games aren't shareware.

I'm not seeing any injustice here.

Why should I have to give out my user and password.

I understand street and market piracy, so my kids and their laptop are in that bracket, even more crazy now.

Ps its not a him, I have 2 girls.

You should if you want your kid to play your copy. Or you could buy him a copy of his own with his own Steam account.

Otherwise, deal with it.

I'm sorry that there's no way for Valve to distinguish between your child's laptop and one belonging to a software pirate. That's not at all feasible, and the most it brings up is a minor inconvenience. Unless you have some brilliant idea you could pitch to Valve to remove your kid from that bracket, you need to stop pointing fingers and accept that you put yourself into this situation through your own ignorance.

How old are you, do you have kids, are you a dad yet, I also think most kids will have laptop of their own soon.

What does that matter?

Most kids will have laptops of their own soon? Excellent! Then surely another copy of HL2 is well within an acceptable price range if they (or their parents) can afford to spend over a thousand dollars on a miniature computer.

There is no scamming in Steam. You're just being stubborn.

Ill not ask you to buy a Laptop then.

The kids Mum Did pay ?230 on eBay for a high spec secondhand laptop, we will wait for you to post a new HL2 game then.

What do you think I'm posting from?

Paid roughly $1200 for mine with my own cash. Am I now qualified to speak?

I never stopped you, did I, Shall I tell my kids this Kind man with a $1200 laptop from the BIG USA, is sending a new HL2 as a Christmas present.

FYI, if the laptop remains offline, you can still use your Steam account online without any problems. However, if you go online, you'll be booted out ("This Steam Account Is Being Used Into Another Location").

You are consistently drifting into the realm of batshit incoherence. I advise you to stop.

The kids laptop will be ofline for ages, their Mum had Broadband Fitted today, the laptop used a wirless dongle, they broke it fighting over it, typical sisters, on a good note an online game they love to play is set up everywhere, even the after school club has it.
So theve forgotten about HL2.

They have an Internet connection. You have a steam account with HL2 that you can give them access to. I don't understand the problem.

They only got INTERNET today, I started this thread when they had no INTERNET thats the difference and the problem I had.

So their computer now meets the minimum requirements. If/when they want to play HL2 there is now nothing stopping you from installing it.

No not now, all I have to do is give them my Steam Stuff, I'll have to tell them about Steam as it wont leave them alone.

You'd think so, but I'm sure he has another whacky excuse / reason to complain some more, and stubbornly refuse to accept the obvious course of action.

Perhaps he doesn't trust his own kids with his Steam account that he doesn't use any more?

His login name is probably something like hugepenis2000... maybe that's why he doesn't want to tell it to his kids.

You knew about having to use steam, unless you for some bizarre reason don't want your kids to use "your" details (but to the length of my knowledge, storing porn on Steam is not a feature yet), I do not see what the problem is! You'll just have to learn to share, and in doing so, you'll also set a fine example for your children.

You don't even have to do that - once you have logged in (providing you have selected "Remember me on this computer") you can make a shortcut to HL2 (right hand click on it in steam then hit Create desktop shortcut).

You don't have to tell them your password as you have entered it.
They can't change the password since you need to re-enter it to change it.
With the shortcut they don't even have to care what steam is.

Problem solved?

Should be pretty much solved.

Good luck Privateer. Who's getting you all these games anyway?

Me
Because of my disabilty, I now do nothing at all, so my spending is nil, I have a modified wheelchair to get to my pc, from here I play games all day, thats all I can do, it took me about 2 weeks of solid play to finish HL2, even then a nice person like you, told me how to cheat I used noclip on the ending, I could'nt get up there quick enough, to cheat I used noclip and went straight up.
Also my Tv and DVD player have been modified, so when Im bored of a game
I watch a DVD, also daytime TV is ok.

So, do you order games off the 'net?

Take the opportunity of being pretty much confined to your house to learn as much about technology as you can. What with the internet and stuff you're probably going to need it.

What is the exact nature of your disabilites? Does it inhibit learning or just motor skills?

My leaning skills are zero now, because of my memory, luckily years ago my job was fixing and building computors, so my pc skills are very good still and my long term memory is ok at the moment.

eBay is a very good source for games and my carer is a good gamer, when hes in a shop
and sees a good game, for a good price he rings me, my carer is a star.

Privateer is a troll, can't you tell yet?

I'm getting a good conversation going here, butt out.

So you've got very poor short term memory? How poor? Non existant, fragmented, fair?

I apologise if I'm being intrusive, just tell me and i'll stop asking lotsa questions. I'm just curious.

Np m8, I'm happy to talk, its a way of dealing with things.

My short term has completely gone, I can't even remember my carers name, Its pointless trying to read, after the 2nd word Ive forgotten the first, so I even forget what I say, looking back on my sentences to spell check, its like a strange sentence.
My parents just called, they just paid for 2 ds games, I couldn't remember the names and prices of the games, I only bought them yesterday.

Bloody memory, I forgot to ask my carer to get 3 things I really need

Also to help so I don't forget, I use the same password, if I changed my Steam password I would forget it, now I'll get the lecture about writing it down, I can't write anymore.
Another memory issue, Ive just got a text of my kids, I cant remember the number so I don't know which daughter sent it.
