Roberts nominated as Chief Justice

What the..?

I expected/supported Justice Scalia to be nominated. That blindsided me.

edit: It makes sense though confirmation wise. Rather than make two Senate battles over the nomination in both position, it becomes one, wheras with two the democrats would have went with both in some package deal to get some of THEIR stuff through. This way it's two birds with one stone and it defeats one being blocked by merging the two as one.

Nice I guess. Scalia would've been good too though, but whatever. :p

I dunno though, I think Scalia would potentially have a harder time anyway, Roberts just seems like an easy choice, I mean, the only "bad stuff" people have brought against him are court cases he argued as a lawyer, the guy's damn clean and very likeable... it is kinda troubling that he won;t have had any time as a justice before being saddled with the Chief Justice role, but then again he's also younger and could fill the seat for a while

Yeah, that's real smart. Appoint a guy who has never even served on the Supreme Court to be Chief Justice?!?!

Would it be fair to appoint an office clerk all the sudden to be a judge? Maybe I can skip being an attorney and go straight to being a judge if I'm an intern for long enough.

I just don't see how this guy is qualified to be Chief Justice. Roberts must have blackmailed Bush or something. Maybe Roberts has pictures of Bush and a goat engaging in certain unflattering acts. You know, Bush is a cowboy. :naughty:

Roberts is qualified, it just wasn't expected he would be chosen, almost everyone was expecting Scalia to be. It's not like he doesn't know what's going on and is a total 'newbie' to the supreme court (He hasn't been 'on it' but he's been in the legal field his entire life and has argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court, he's pretty much a known face there)
