TF2 fan site Community Fortress had an interview with Team Fortress 2 Lead Designer, Robin Walker. And they got some interesting answers about the unlock system and future updates.

At the very least, future packs will allow you to use achievements to get the new items, but we might move to a mode where we just give them to you," he added. "As part of our goal of supporting tournaments more, I think we'll probably add better tools for them to control exactly what players can and can't use within matches.

Walker also mention some plans about a couple of large updates that aren't tied to a specific class.

We don't really know yet, to be honest. We've still got lots of ideas for what we could do with TF2, but in the short term we'll continue to do what we've done up until now: not plan too far ahead, so we can remain fluid and reactive to the feedback we get from players. We already have a couple of large updates in the works that aren't tied to a specific class, so we'll see what you think of those.

I strongly suggest you read this interview, head to Community Fortress for more.

I always wondered what would happen once all the classes got their items; wether Valve would flood the drop system with cosmetics or what.

I was under the impression that Valve would release more weapons after the first round of hitting every class.

It might have been from an interview right when the unlocks were announced. Don't quote me though.

More weapons sound like a good idea, but I can only see it leading to things like Spies trying to snipe, and snipers on the front line.

Wai-

More weapons might sound like a good idea, but don't forget that the more complicated the game gets, the harder it is for new players to pick up.

i really wanna know who thought the random drop system was a good idea.

Q: The Team Fortress 2 community has produced many great videos of their own, such as EgadPit's "Soldja Boy"
That fills me with some measure of joy. EgadPit's a real-life friend, former coworker, and oldschool clanmate. I'm gonna need to tell him later today that he's still riding that fame train. And to think I told him Soldja Boy was repetitive.

Robin Walker, since you hold so much influence and sway over Gabe Newell can you walk into Gabes office get on our knees and beg him to give some develpment time to Day of defeat source? I want more maps for it man...and more stuff.

Please.

I'm glad they have clocked on in terms of the drop system. It does work for the rare, more superfluous items, such as cosmetics, but it's a completely broken delivery system for new upgrades. In fact, it has pretty much spoilt the recent update--the promise of a trade system is completely redundant considering most players are going to have at least 10 of each item by the way it's released. Poor implementation, poor idea.
