Rock 24 is a Single Player Mod for Half Life 2. This is our first mod and attempt at level design. Hope you enjoy!

Story:
After a disastrous rescue attempt to free Richard G Newell, a renowned rebel scientist, Dr. Gordon Freeman awakes to find himself locked in a holding cell on a mountainside prison facility dubbed 'Rock 24'. His new mission, locate and free the rebel scientist and escape the collapsing combine prison.

I saw this on Interlopers.

This shall give me something to fill those empty hours over the weekend :)
 
I enjoyed it very much. A lot of fun puzzle solving. Sniper section was fun. Excellent intro.

Overall a pretty good attempt, I give it an 8/10. Second only to the great Minerva in terms of sp action
 
I liked it, very fun all the way through. It was a tad bit short sadly, but the excellent level design, good voice acting and story made that something forgettable.
 
Arghhh I am stuck, I am having trouble in the begining, after I get out of the prison I get a crowbar & there is NO HEV suit? Then I go up the ladder, into the air ducts, then after I get out of the air ducts... there is turrets pointing in my direction then I die. YAY!!! Then I am forced to use no clip & god mode because doors refuse to open & the turrets that you can't avoid. ;(


Other than that, I am loving the level design, very well detailed; Plus voice acting & a very compelling story line.
 
There's a button to the right of the vent you come out of to disable the turrets I think.
 
Just completed it now, really fun mod to play, loved the level designs and the big fight at the end made for some epic firefights. Laura's voice annoyed the hell out of me though and I'm British!

Good stuff overall.

haha, sorry about that! Laura is my fiancee, we did have a proper voice actor lined up but she never got back to us so I got Laura to read the lines instead. I know what you mean, she did try her hardest though!! :E

I'm stuck at the lift bit after the stairs collapse. I chuck a grenade to flick the switch and then the elevator comes down, get in, ride the elevator up, it shudders (sounds like cable breaks) then falls and I die.

I can't seem to escape the elevator or anything. What have I missed / done wrong?

The mod is really good. The initial start is a bit slow but after you get guns it picks up quickly and from there on it's great.
 
Hi j1mmy,
When the lift cables begin to snap you must get on top of the lift (back through the door in the ceiling) then you must jump from one lift to the other before the lift falls down.

Need HELP.

I am stuck on the second stage. After dropping from the vents, I turn the torrents off (front door), kill the guard (door on the right of the vents, in the jail where the level started) and then - stuck.
I tried stocking piles of crates to jump to where you see the guard punfhing a code and openning a door - but no door would open.

How do I proceed?

If you stand underneath the bridge that the guard walks across there are two doors, use the door on the left and it will open letting you into a locker room.

I get green shadows whenever playing it. anybody else have this problem?
 
No, but could be that it is due to anti-aliasing? Try to disable it and see then.
 
Theres some graphical issues (green shadows, explosions and such didn't work)

Rest is pretty damn cool :)

Yeah, first it's a CS map, not a big one - just one so we have a multiplayer map in our portfolio. Then once that's complete another single player mod, might be on a next gen engine though rather than source, we will see.
 
Excellent mod :D I had lots of fun playing it. I loved the throwing puzzle in the prison cell.

Wow thanks, lots of people actually complained about that puzzle, i wanted the player to work to get out of the cells rather than just be shown a way out. How long did it take you to figure out, did you have to wait for the text to appear as a hint or did you guess it quickly?

As long as it's not something that requires a supercomputer (Quake 4/Unreal Engine 3), I'll be getting the next one too.

Unfortunately, yeah, I had to wait until the text came on the screen. Perhaps it needed more of an indication, perhaps not. I liked it because of how inventive and original it was. I still had fun doing it even if it gave me a hint.

Some of the bars on the prison gate were too thin to throw the metal through, so that frustrated me. But that's Valve's fault for making an inconsistent model series :D When I got the piece of metal through the bars at the side, I actually started throwing them at the radio. I thought it would fall off and make a sound or something to get the guard in. Did Richard mention that the wired up bars were not activated yet? I suppose that got me thrown off.

I think if the bars were already electrified and you had to knock off the radio on the table to grab the attention of the guard, it could have worked better. It was still a fun puzzle nevertheless.
 
That was awesome. I'd say your mod is by far the closest to meeting the quality of Valve's single player experience.
Great job :D

p.s. the Indiana Jones-like sequence near the end was fun, and I liked the atmosphere.
