I have always said why did that happen with the rockets? Remember the vid with the combine flying thing that shoots stuff out? Then you have to fight it with a rocket launcher? When you fire your first rocket it doesn't go in a straight path. It kinda swoops around him, completely missing then hits the wall. WTF?!!? :frown: And then I'm thinking that was alpha and I see the coast bink. It happens again, it completely misses its target takes a detour and hits him at his feet! Wtf is with these rockets do they have some disability going from point A to point B!?! Could this be like a James Bond game when you shoot something then the theme song comes on, you get some bonus points for pulling off a bond "move"? I'm posting this because I don't wanna be fragging someone while waiting for the rocket to hit him and keeping the little red dot on him.

lol, i'm guessin its the guys aim that makes it miss. it should go straight where the crosshair is :p

If you've ever played Half-Life 1 you'll know that there is a laser sight on the weapon that you can turn on or off. If you so wish to turn it off so the rocket flies in a straight line, just right click and it will turn off the laser. Then you just need to point and shoot.

The laser is handy for moving targets, such as that flying combine thing, as the rocket will hit where there red laser is pointing to.

Edited thread title as I see no correlation between homosexuality and laser guided rockets.

I guess the rockets miss for some 'physics' related issue. But the laser guiding thing usually works, in the strider binks they work fine. I guess having a weapon that 100% effiecient can be pretty lame. Everything needs to have flaws...i think? and what are you talking about with the James Bond thing?

EDIT : hehe Chris

they go to where ever the laser pointer is pointing, when the player shot the guy on the tower he wasn't aiming straight at him so the rocket went passed him to where the laser point was pointing. The player corrected and the rocket came back and hit the guy. Notice that it didn't stop in mid air and turn but it kept the same speed and came back around thus the circle and coming up to hit the guy from underneath. It's all physics (i think) objects in motion want to stay in motion on the path set by the initial impulse, to change that path means that it has to try and go in a different direction but will need to take a wide arc because it's going so fast.
Long winded, round in a circle answer.
Of course i'm sure this can be modded, and you don't get rockets in CS:S so it isn't a fragging problem for multiplayer (if CS:S is the only multiplayer packaged with hl2)

EDIT: hmmm 3 posts while i was typing.

I think he meant queer as in weird..

Adj. 1. queer - beyond or deviating from the usual or expected; "a curious hybrid accent"; "her speech has a funny twang"; "they have some funny ideas about war"; "had an odd name"; "the peculiar aromatic odor of cloves"; "something definitely queer about this town"; "what a rum fellow"; "singular behavior"
peculiar, rum, rummy, curious, funny, singular, odd

I'm aware of that meaning of it, but it's a bit of an archaic word to use in that context nowadays and people tend to get offended or the wrong idea.

Nah, he means queer as in gay. He's talking about rockets that don't fly straight, hence the gay part :E

Note also that the rockets aim for the actual laser dot in HL2, instead of the infinitely-distant end point of the line from the launcher to the laser dot and beyond...

Meh whatever. I watched both the movies. The costline bink he fires it away from the thing, and I'm like "why did he do that?" He keeps the laser beam on it, and it goes around him, then swoops back and I'm like, "its gonna nail him!" And it hits the mountain side! He fires another one in front of him and hits it. But it went in a straight path. [Removed - No beta info please]

I'm fairly sure the reason the rocket missed the Combine gunship was because the gunship was actually dodging the rocket.

I'm more impressed by the Combine actually trying to shoot the rocket down.

The rocket missed because it can't turn on a dime. It does have momentum and limited turning ability. Heck, I'm surprised it was able to turn as well as it did.

And the aiming was probably a little exaggerated in order to show off the targeting system and rocket maneuvering...

[EDIT]: Yes. Yes you are.

When he shoots at the gunship, he deliberately aims quite a way away from it in order to show off the new rocket aiming system. Thats it. For his second shot he aims directly at the gunship

In the coast video, he again aims away from the soldier he wants to hit, presumably for the same reason.

I loved that feature. I played around with the hl1 rockets like crazy. Killbox anyone?

ARMAGEDDON!

Sorry. That just slipped out.

aaah, I love that map. It's the best when someone jumps up with low grav and you fire a rocket and it totatlly annihilates them in the air and their body slowly falls....

mmmmm I love HL :cheese:

The laser guided rockets were one of the coolest things about Half Life. Nice to see they have improved on them further.

OBVIUOSLY THE GUNSHIP CAN DODGE QUITE A NUMBER OF SLOW MOVING PROJECTILES!!!

a bullet goes much faster than a rocket ;)

then again, a rocket can tear through armor.

Lol rgr! remember how if a lot of people had rockets everyones rockets would go crazy.

In hl1 your rocket follows even your enemies red dot.

Yeah I liked how it has a laser rocket. It's cool that you can guide it where ever you want unlike other games they just go strait when you shoot. :|

I also think they were purposely showing off how the rockets could move now in the videos.

And for Hl1... I remember when I played some mod once and the rocket had lots of extra modes... remote control, heat seaking, and some other things... the rockets are fun :D

Thats the serprize mod. Fun stuff, it had over 50 guns.

I dont know what that is but what I played was a single player game where you killed scientists lol... I dont remember the name though. But there were lots of things you could use to kill the scientists (not only weapons)... hehehe.

That looks fun.. but no. I think its called scientist killing club.

i think the rocket launcher should fire a giant vibrater instead of a explosive device that way it would rumble the ground like a earth quake omg im so damn stoned

You could mod it.

Well, i found alot of the weapons in HL were fun, compared to many other games. was good to have cheats on and just pile up tons of the demo packs or what ever they were calling them and letting them off, so many of them that the sound messed up and ended up there was no sound. I always tried to crash my comp with it, never did though.
