Rockstar Games Announces Bully

HA! Sounds fun(ny)
What will they think of next...

That's honestly f*cking stupid. Rockstar shouldn't be getting away with doing stupid shit like this - they're like a shock rock band that screams about satan, rape, and hatred simply for the money it makes them.

GTA is a fun game, although close to being over the line, but Bully... wtf.

"Rockstar tradition of groundbreaking, innovative, original gameplay in killing people."

seriously though it sounds terrible.

Only so long till they make a game about cannibalism or killing babies or something.

Or being Hitler in World War II; I honestly wouldn't put it past them eventually.

It sounds rather lame, though there's hardly any info in the article. As said, Rockstar seems to be focusing on producing games with shock value and cashing out on the publicity.

Or How about

Rockstar Games presents: Texas Chainsaw!
Texas chainsaw, by rockstar North is a groundbreaking game in graphics and playability! In "Texas Chainsaw!" You can run around Texas ripping people up with your weapon of choice, AND GET AWAY WITH IT! The game features lots of blood, killing, and a tounge-in-body-bag humour.
EDIT: :|

Well it's not like you're the bully or anything. It sounds like an oppertunity for a good game; to overcome obstacles with little more than imagination and strong will. I'll emphasise "oppertunity" though... knowing Rockstar, you'll probally run around gouging eyes out with spoons and starting lethal food fights. You can just see it now; Bully, Rockstar's new 18-rated game, banned from most American states and minor European countries, as well as pretty much everywhere else.

Sounds like fun, but it's going to be the scapegoat for school crimes now. Rockstar is so good at being a scapegoat, and making new ways to be one.

Yep, and they'd include the wheelchair guy from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Rockstar Games presents: RETARD SAFARI!

GTA 3 --> State of Emergency --> GTA Vice City --> Manhunt --> GTA San Andreas -- > Bully

Bully, I dub thee Filler Material!

This sounds... shit, to be honest. I can't believe it's coming from Rockstar. My guess is that's either a hoax or they're leaving out specific information.

Like, maybe you can hang down from the monkey bars and gruesomely saw off a bully's head with sharp wood chip. Then you rip out his spine and proceed to lash at the other students, gaining sweet and savory lunch money with every cut you whip into their flesh. You venture inside the school and enter the alcoholic janitor's room. You slip him 5$ and he sells you a machine gun (because he's a drunk idiot), allowing you to have a massive showdown in the school, Pico-style.
Then, with the mission complete, you get onto your tricycle, pick up lil' Sally, and then ride behind the bushes. You hear the rustling of leaves as you watch your health fill up.

Might be fun for 11 year olds. Most likely has low replay value as well.

Except Manhunt was actually good. As far as gameplay, graphics, and plot goes I think it's the best thing Rockstar has produced. Obviously GTA is better overall but Manhunt wasn't a slouch, ignoring the extreme violence there really is a good stealth action game in there.

I bet Rockstar could be the only games company that could ever consider a fighting game like Street Fighter but with 'im'famous world leaders with such characters as Hitler, Stalin, Churchill, Roosevelt, Kennedy, Bush and Clinton :).

Cool, now i can go and choose special moves for them :).

As a troublesome schoolboy, you'll laugh and cringe as you stand up to bullies, get picked on by teachers, play pranks on malicious kids, win or lose the girl, and ultimately learn to navigate the obstacles of the fictitious reform school, Bullworth Academy.
I fail to see here where it says the objective of the game is to pick on poor defenseless kids almost to the point where they commit suicide.

I think it has a lot of potential. In my mod-making days I was considering a game with a similar concept. Wish I'd done it now ;(

Yeah, State of Emergency was one of the worst games I've ever played for the PS2.

Ssshhh... that's what we tell the Daily Mail. "It were murder by Playstation I tell thee! Ban these Evil Games!"

Great...now this is just going to promote bullying in schools

READ the article! You play as a school kid who stands up to bullies, not as a school kid who is one!

So I'm sure it'll be a moral, valuable lesson in determination and sticking up for yourself and life enhancing for any kid the age of those in the game to play. :|

And if it isn't, they'll always have Manhunt :)

Once again, I fail to see here where it says the objective of the game is to pick on poor defenseless kids almost to the point where they commit suicide.

No, I think the problem here is that the concept is just stupid. It's certainly not what one expects from Rockstar and it doesn't sound that appealing at all. After all, who wants to move from GTA3 to reliving the days of having your ass kicked and your apple juice urinated in?

It's hard to call the concept stupid if you have absolutely no idea what the gameplay entails.

I can't say it appeals to me. Sure, no one's done it before, but there's probably a good reason for that :|

Anything that doesn't involve mindless, sensationalist violence is probably a good step for Rockstar, mind...

It's a tiny little article for god sake. It isn't "the game" in a paragraph.

Ohhh so u stand up to bullies. With a name like bully i just though u were the bully

Yes, but as a rule I just don't like "mundane" games. It doesn't matter how brilliant they are, part of me feels that my enjoyment of it has been impaired unless there's some sort of fantastical element.

I'm a shallow git, aren't I? :(

But hey, maybe there're killer robots in this school. I like killer robots. Science-projects, anyone?

I have completely avoided games for having particular themes and concepts, regardless of the quality of gameplay. Some things just rub me the wrong way. Period.

That said, you are right. I suppose it is far too early to even begin making predictions as to its quality. I just won't be getting my hopes up, that's all.

ADDED: Edcrab hit the nail on the head.

I might actually enjoy this game if it has online support for mics, recreate some Back to the Future moments.

"Hey McFly, I thought I told you not to come in here."

Well, Rockstar might well let you do just that!

"Hey McFly, I thought I- OH MY GOD THERE'S A SCREWDRIVER IN MY CROTCH!!"

Not that all they ever produce involves mindless violence or anything. This'll be, as I said, a good step for them if it doesn't involve anything (especially) graphic or controversial.

From the article it sounds like a poor platformer.. like a simpsons game :)

Oh man...The McFly part made it funny :D

This game could be interesting, but no matter what you actually do... the context is going to make it controversial.

True, bullying is definitely a sensitive subject... but as controversial as pimping, drug dealing, and genocide?

...wait, is this a British school? They could do both! :p

...I don't get it.

They could cover both sensitive subject-groups. You know? British school? Thug stereotype? Gangland culture...?

Oh, I give up.

/me gets his groove on
