"Gamespot has confirmed, via a long and involved process, that the PS2 version of GTA: San Andreas contains the 'Hot Coffee' content. This essentially means that Rockstar was untruthful when it previously stated the content was added by a modder, but "Given that the minigame is about as raunchy as an episode of Sex and the City, cannot be accessed without entering a long string of cheat codes, and takes several hours of effort to access, charges that San Andreas is 'pornographic' may seem extreme to some."

added fuel to the crazies determined to nail rockstar to the proverbial wall ...Jack Thompson's going to have a field day with this

well....i never liked the games anyway, so no loss to me

You fool, this sets a precident. If they can go after rockstar they can go after any company, freedom of expression and ratings be damned.

if youre talking to me....then if Rockstar had actually mentioned to the ratings companies that this content was adult, they wouldnt be caught in a possibly crippling scandal - If fact, why would they need to include it anyway?

If you were talking to Stern, then ignore my coments above, I apologise in advance

Rockstar do other things as well, what about Max Payne? Won't somebody PLEASE think of Maxy!

I used to like Rockstar a lot, I would have been upset about this even just a few months ago. Then they decided to release SA on xbox. Quite frankly thats a big blow to die hard PS2 fans. Rockstar is one of those company's that contribute to Playstations huge success over xbox. Everyone knows while the PS2 is physically not able to keep up with the xbox, sony will always be more popular for the playstation name, and the games it has. Now rockstar is selling their crap to microsoft. Think of how Halo players would feel if Bungie released Halo 3 on PS3.

Now I'm glad this happened. I hope that's a kick in the balls to rockstar.

This is not about the quality of Rockstar's games or how much you like them, it is about how games are viewed by the world at large and what politicians can do to make life difficult for all games companies. Freedom of expression and all that (except games supposedly aren't covered by this...).

If Rockstar come out the worse for this battle then it sets all kinds of bad precedents for the gaming industry.

Having said that it was really ****ing stupid of them to leave the Hot Coffee content in the PS2 version. The PC one is different since PC users always have more options in terms of accessing and hacking game files, but leaving it accessible on PS2 is shoddy. Regardless of ratings, they should know that the media comes down a lot harder on sex than it does on violence and they should have done a more professional job of cutting the content from the game if that's what they intended.

Be that as it may, Jack Thompson needs to have cigarettes stubbed out in his eyes.

""One very important thought"
"Now that the show is over, and we have jointly exercised our constitutional rights, we would like to leave you with one very important thought: Some time in the future, you may have the opportunity to serve as a juror in a so-called obscenity case. It would be wise to remember that the same people who would stop you from viewing an adult film may be back next year to complain about a book, or even a TV programme. If you can be told what you can see or read, then it follows that you can be told what to say or think. Defend your constitutionally-protected rights. No one else will do it for you. Thank you." "

How very petty of you.

And I, for one, would like to make love to Kangy for referencing a Boards of Canada track.

This affects all games idiots, not just rockstar. As was said above this sets the precident to games coming out and they will be judged differently and more harshly. This will limit what games will be able to do and could have very harsh consequences. We could even see a witch hunt with games coming up.

I really don't get this at all... someone explain it to me. The game was an 18, right? So what if it had sex scenes, unlockable or not?

Did the Lula PC games not get released in America?

They're fighting over principle. The sex scenes will change the game rating from Mature to Adult. Yes it won't make much of a difference because the game is for adults anyway; but I think the basis here is that game industry as a whole is fragile. This fragility in the rating system and the content released by the gaming companies is supposed to be a big weakness and a huge indication that video games are poor toys for children and anyone else.

As much as I despise Jack Thompson, why the HELL did they hide that in there and slip it by? Irresponsible.

Sad though, I know they'll use this to go after legitamately rated games.

did you guys read the article? from some of your responses I dont think you did ...the player doesnt see genitalia in the ps2 version. it's just a minigame where you make CJ go ..... faster

Looks like RockStar needs to release a edited verison that takes out the code but would prolly not make the activist stop their attack.

Pfft. What's the point then. :D

it's still simulated sex ...the crazies will have a field day ...they could have argued the hackers created the mod on the pc ...but they cant claim that for the ps2

Wow. Simulated sex, eh? And the cars rocking up and down does not incite these extreemists to sue? I personally dont think that rockstar should have included that mini-game. That was just asking to be a lawsuit. However, if it had a mature or adult rating, there should be no problem. I mean, when a game has a mature content rating you should EXPECT to see this kind of stuff.

I hope Rockstar wins out against these ignorant people.

So would this make the game AO? So many 17 year olds who bought this game will be tainted by it :( all because they weren't 18.

The craziness continues.

Funnily enough, in Britain you're allowed to have sex legally at the age of sixteen - but you're not allowed to watch an 18-rated film, or drink. Just goes to show I suppose...

Bugger me, how does it matter at all? It's not as if Rockstar pledged to release SanAndreas only on X-Box, is it? In fact, it's nearly the reverse. SA's release on PS2 over six months in advance of its X-Box release makes it look almost like a PS2 exclusive title; certainly it makes it seem a PS2 game first and foremost.
This pissed you off enough that you won't bat an eyelid to see not only a talented game developing house come under fire, but also that it opens up the gates, once again, for "mature" games to be roundly, heavily criticised?
I don't understand that, even for a second. It's not as if GTA's presence on the X-Box is going to destroy Sony - it's the PLAYSTATION for f*ck's sake. Besides, their new one's coming out soon.

This isn't a matter of platforms, this is about gaming as a whole.

And you have to be 21 to go into a strip bar. Go figure.

Seriously Stern, mate, step awaaaayyy from the obvious topic derailment...

hey!! no! no! not going there /me backs away slowly

bush sucks!! vive le resistance!!!

/me runs

:D I just thought: "Seriously Stern", like Serious Stern - it could be like Serious Sam except you'd fight against crazy ruight-wing nut-jobs, obviously you wouldn't be able to use guns to fight them, so you could used reasoned liberal arguments/propaganda (depending on the "weapon" or enemy) and battle cries of "Bush sucks!! vive le resistance!!!"
There would also be much gratuitous nudity.

shit, shoulda come here before i carefully crafted that email to senator clinton... f*ck me, f*cking Rockstar lying about this shit... now i'm loathe to support their games after i defended their lies

what lies? the PC version is a mod ..the content wasnt there to begin with (not in it's current form) ..the ps2 version is only simulated sex but you dont actually see anything

wether you like rockstar or not is immaterial .....EVERY gamer should be against this witch hunt because it will ultimately affect us all

Well that was my point - you'll fry their brains :D

Well, actually it basically unlocks what was already there, there's nothing that's REALLY been added, except for a skin (quite literally) that is more explicit to the nudey ones "shipped" with the game. Or so I'm told. <Ahem>
Even so, Rockstar did not necessarily intend it to be viewed; they themselves did not unlock it (as far as I'm aware), nor did they distribute the means to unlock it. This isn't really their fault as such.

wether you like rockstar or not is immaterial .....EVERY gamer should be against this witch hunt because it will ultimately affect us all
I whole-heartedly endorse this product/event/argument.

oh trust me, i am squarely against all the shit that keeps getting shoveled on gamers
but personally, after GTA3, the GTA games have been pretty monotonous, I didn;t even think about purchasing San Andreas, it's the same game only with a slightly different setting and bigger area... boring

ya but the quality of the game has nothing to do with the fight against these self-righteous bastards

I purchased the pc version but havent played it in awhile due to bf2 ...even if I dont like the rap culture all that much I still think it's a good game regardless ...just not meant for kids/young teens

i think it's ridiculous. just one more reason not to like Senator Clinton (curious: what is Stern's take on her?). they need something to bitch about. it's not like it's that explicit. It still has a mature rating. Children shouldn't be playing this game anyway. Rockstar ****ed up by not admitting their mistake. This looks bad on their part. But I still stand behind them.

Speaking of freedom of expression, I heard about Palestinians creating games in which the finale is the assassination of Ariel Sharon. That's extreme, but i'd support its right to exist here in the states. I would never buy something like that, but i've bought games like Wolfenstein 3d in which you kill hitler. Just some food for thought.

Agreed. If this goes the distance...this will screw all gamers bad. At the same time, Rockstar looks even worse by lying and may make the situation even more dire...so they deserve some flack from gamers if the heat really comes down on the industry as a whole.

Go figure....all this for a series of rather shallow and useless games..IMO. As if we should have expected more. Ha.

Sucks that they lyed, but i think people can do whatever they want, as long as they warrne you of that first (rating)

i wanna see some images from that "hot coffee", very interesting, do people know what exactly is so shocking about it?

From what I hear, both CJ and his girlfriends are both wearing clothing when "it" happens. It's not revealing, just suggestive.

Let's be honest. It doesn't matter what content is in there. It's still covered by the UK 18 rating and the USA ESBN M for Mature rating.

Both of them state that games rated at those levels may contain sexual content.

Additionally, Rockstar didn't lie. They never said that it was a mod, they said that it was a modder who unlocked the code. It wasn't sold or developed for the purpose of showing sexual content. That was only discovered by a modder.

EDIT: We don't condone sexual or nude content on these forums, however because the images in the game certainly aren't very sexual and definitely aren't nude then feel free to post them if you wish.

true dat Chris_D..........
who cares if its a mini game where u could control how "Fast" he goes?
God of War kinda had the same thing and nobody cried over that did they?

I'm not at all worried about this.

There was this child film called "The Rescuers" by Disney. It had a picture of a naked woman spliced into a single frame in the movie. BIG ass hub-bub about it. I don't see the children's movie industry going out of business. I don't see Disney dying.

Granted, media behemoth that Disney is, it was somewhat easier for it to survive something like that. But I don't think the game industry will suffer too too much because of it. Tighter regulations making it hard for people to get their hands on mature content games? Yeah, I'm seeing it. But I have no problem with that. It should have already happened.
