As part of my English coursework, I had to watch Romeo & Juliet. It was a modern day version, so it was quite interesting to watch.

The last scene soon arrived, after Romeo thought Juliet was dead (she wasn't, she had taken a liquid which made her look dead for 48 hours). So Romeo went to where she was resting (again, because everyone except one person thought she was dead) and wanted to kill himself and be close to Juliet.
Juliet started moving, slowly about to wake up as the 48 hours were over, but Romeo wasn't aware of this. It was time to end his life, just as Juliet was walking up. She was fully awake, and I was literally shouting at the screen "MOTHERF**KER! SHE'S AWAKE! DON'T KILL YOURSELF!" but of course, he accidently took it and gave Juliet a look like he had done a mistake - and of course he did.

He soon snuffed it. Juliet then had the same idea, found a gun Romeo had carried, put it to her head and pulled the trigger which released a load bang.

It was quite depressing.

You mean the one with DiCaprio? I saw it last weekend, it was so depressing.

I just watched the The Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino a few days ago. I could remember parts of the story from high school, and it seemed a bit simple, but good anyway.

Yeah it is quite sad :(

Spoiler tags for the ending of R&J? :P

Good film, nice soundtrack too.

Yeah, who spoiler tags the ending of romeo and juliet? And who gets surprised at the ending? Welcome to 400 years ago.

Xendance is the modern movie your only window to Romeo & Juliet and other Shakespearian plays? Because that's kind of sad.

Not to mention there are far better playwrights than him.

Go see Othello. Iago is one of the best villains ever.

Othello is so good :) easily my fav shakespeare play

I saw that movie last week for school too. Quite interesting, I really enjoyed the style

Does anyone know if there's anymore like this? Like...MacBeth?
I saw a modern interpretation of Wurthering Heights which made me want to go on a slaughterfest. D:

For a good modern version of a Shakespeare play, go see Richard III with Ian McKellen. It's brilliant, it's set in a sort of 1930s-England, it's got tanks, machine guns and bombs but is totally faithful to the play.

Scotland, PA is a modern interpretation of MacBeth, taking place in a fast food restaurant. Definitely a good watch.

I just remembered there being a version of Macbeth set in feudal Japan. It was really old and I dont remember what its called.
Throne of Blood. Very good adaptation. I liked it much better than the original play. Probably 'cause they weren't speaking in Shakespearean.

I love how you feel you have to explain the ending of R+J to us, Xendance. Yeah, the Baz Luhrman version is lovely.

NON.

Harold Pinter? Samuel Beckett? Bertolt Brecht? Henrik Ibsen? Christopher Marlowe? Thomas Middleton?
All brilliant, but not "far better".

What an utterly wrong thing to say.

Have you no sense of culture sir?
Have you next experienced Henry V? The St.Crispins day speech?

Or the beautiful soliliquies in Macbeth?

Oh gosh, how old is that movie.
Not to mention the script
