Found this on Slashdot, which is saying definitively to their readers that HL2 is gold. Anyway someone posted this as coming from A CERTAIN message board. Don't ask me, I'm just the messenger.
I suppose its fake.

HALF-LIFE 2™ HAS GONE GOLD

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 16, 2004) - Vivendi Universal Games announced today that Half-Life 2, the highly anticipated next installment in the best-selling and beloved franchise, has gone gold and will be released December 6th in North America, and December 20th in Europe.

“Half-Life 2 offers an unprecedented gameplay experience,” said Michael Rouling, EVP, Vivendi Universal Games. “It features the most advanced AI ever seen in a game, combined with state of the art graphics and sound.”.

Developed by Valve, Half-Life 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the best selling Half-Life title, named “Best PC Game Ever” by PC Gamer. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.

Half-Life 2 carries a suggested retail prices of $54.95 and has been rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB with descriptors for blood and intense violence. For additional information please go to www.half-life2.com.

Never trust anything like this without official confirmation. There's a lot of dumb jackoffs out there that love to fool the extremely gullible.

and isn't it a simultaneous launch in multiple territories? teh fake.

Fake fake fake.

And it'd be a horribly retarded maneuver for vivendi for there to be a 14 day difference between the US release and the Europe release. Imagine all the sales lost to steam.

Can tell this is fake instasntly thought first couple of lines december 6th in n america then 20th europe, WORLD WIDE RELEASE PPL lol

Theres some stupid ppl out there

DELETED!!!!!!!!
i hate fake things they get my hopes up for .000008th of a second then i'm like DAMN!

I would say, as others, that this is fake. Simply due to the 14 day difference - Valve/Vivendi have said all along they want a simultaneous world-wide release. I believe this would include Europe as part of 'the world', meaning that there can be, generally, at most 3-5 days difference between all major western countries in the world (excluding Australia which have bizarre importation laws and often (not always) get things weeks later).

A gold announcement on a Saturday doesn't make any sense. Do think that Vivendi's PR works the weekends?

damn this board is pissy.

Thought we could have a good time just finding the things that are wrong about it.

you guys gotta relax.

"And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him."

I'm sure they would start their sentences with the word and. :hmph:

FAKE!!!

That 14-day difference is ridiculous ... there will be none because of STEAM!

My thoughts exactly. :)

But I wouldn't be too sure about the Australian bit, though. Games, most of the time, come out very close to when they come out in America these days. Heck, Halo 2's getting released here first.

thats more like it Miccy, even earlier, should only take weeks to release after Gold

*gives Miccy a tissue to whipe off the wet trout*

if its true...then theres gonna be a masacre at a certain publishers head quaters

/me does evil laugh!!!

December 6 as a release seems a bit far fetched. Why would the publisher choose a date more than a month away? A more realistic release date would be the second week of November.

omfg, if you "suppose it's fake" why the hell did you post it you moron?! there's like 10 "i have proof that hl2 is going gold tomorrow" threads already. you don't need to add more ones....... when you think they are fake nontheless

I would vote this is fake basedf on soem of the opy pastew ording from the steam/half life sites, about the gameplay.

Very transparent.

Most obviously a forgery. An inconsistent formulation, a limited lexicon, and the abscence of consistency in the legal references (e.g. (R) , TM), just gives it away. Some enthousiast with too much time in his/her hands, is my verdict...

If it really went gold already, the wouldnt hold it until the 6th...shouldnt take longer than a month to ship and the day after thanksgiving is th biggest shopping day of the year, so they wouldnt miss it.

Agreed. The 6th and 20th of December would be an awful long time to wait. :(

I hope this isn't true.
