I have a source that tells me that the Circuit City weekly ad for 7/15 - 7/21 has an ad for a $100 price cut on the PS3.

Hmmm... interesting that E3 is this week and the week after there is a price cut in the Circuit City ad. I think this pretty much says that Sony will officially cut the price at E3.

I am looking for people to discredit or confirm, but I will say that the PS3 needs this.

The PS3 needs that, and of course....games. The games will come, it's just in the world where competition is tight, patience is hard to find.

The 360 is still better value-for-money...

But I don't want any of that crap. :)

Fair enough. Then the 360 is a better value for you. But for people to automatically say it is a better value isn't necessarily true. It depends on what you're looking for.

Not this ****ing argument again. We did that argument in 10 different threads. Please.

OT:
If I were to make my guess, I'd say this rumor has about a 2% chance of being true. Maybe it's Sony's going out of business liquidation sale.

Obviously SONY's only product is the PS3.

$100 bucks off would be great for those already looking to get a PS3 at normal price. But I would think it needs to go below what the 20GB sold at before Sony starts getting those buyers who were holding out.

QFT. Nah, I was being cynical.

However,

Don't you know how much Sony's future rides on it? The Playstation brand is their livelyhood - without it, they are in big trouble.

Don't worry, they still have the PSP and PS2.

haha, watch the rumor to flop big time.
*Sony increases price of Ps3 by $100*

If it's true then it's just Circuit City offering it at a promotional price for that week, and not an actual price cut by Sony.

I can imagine the uproar at the PS3 Hardware Board on GameFAQs.

I don't care--I got mine for $100 off anyway since I traded-in my PS2. Worked out real nice...now I just need a couple more games. Working out my Wii so much is wearing me out!!!

Oh, and I doubt this will end up true....

Thats a good idea. For the 360, they had some deal at a local game store like that for $100 of with the Xbox trade in, but I had already sold mine for like $40. =/

I wish I knew where I could trade in my PS2 for $100 off a PS3 \=

I seriously doubt this is true, sadly.

depending who you ask ..some people are on their 3rd or 4th xbox (12 is the highest I've heard for a single user) ..turns out it's much more expensive once you factor in the red ring of death

;) How come your article references mine ;)

"Puzzlingly, amidst all the evidence of a pending price cut, Chubachi told Reuters earlier today, “At present we have no plans [to cut the PS3 price].”"

Right now for games, the PS3 is lacking, but if your looking for multimedia, there is no better product out there. Even at $600 it's a real bargain. But if your the type who wants only games, the PS3 will have to get some first, then the price will have to drop quite a bit. I know if I was looking for a console, just to play games on, I would not spend $600.

QFT - a 33% failure rate (X360) compared to a 1% failure rate (PS3) is rather drastic

I'll probably buy an X360 after they fix all the problems. If they ever do.

It was an incentive special at EBGamestop for a while back in May I believe. It certainly got me excited and I didn't think there would be a price cut before Oct/Nov anyway, so I sucked it up and did it. Not like it matters, if they do slash $100 off the price I serisouly doubt EBGamestop would offer a further $100 savings just to move units.

Damn, why didn't I know about this! >< Oh well..I guess I'll suffer waiting for the price to drop :(

Key words "at present". What about next week? Usually you ignore what the company says and just wait to find out. They like to cover things up until it's clear for go.

What about a PC? Mac? 360?

For Multimedia, including movies, games, photos, music, portable music, email, web browsing, etc., I love my PC!

While it is certainly hurting MS, to the tune of 1 billion dollars, I don't think that the reliability Sony seems to be enjoying so far is going to gain them any ground at all because they are still loosing a lot of money:

90% failure rate of PS3 processors:
http://dpad.gotfrag.com/ps3/story/33643/

Equally ridiculously high failure rate of the Demo units can't do anything but hurt PS3's reputation.

Hard to believe anyone from any company could be so pompous:
Sony Retail Representative at an EB Games and decided to ask him why he had seen so many PS3s locking up. Surprisingly, the Sony Rep told him it was supposed to crash so that people wouldn?t spend all day playing the PS3. The Sony representative had the following to say:

?We do that so that people won?t play it all day long. Specifically during Motorstorm, we made it freeze up a lot.?

Apparently, even when they freeze and stop working, that's just one of the many features of the console. That's all part of the Sony magic.

How dumb do they think we are? oh wait dumb enough to spend $600 (or more depending on where you live cos believe it or not $600 is cheap compared to what I'd have to pay for it so I say to sony **** you and I'm buying a wii(although I will miss FF XIII and MGS 4 but not enough for that amount of money))

The PC is a totally different format. Same as Mac. The 360 is not as good as far as multimedia is concerned. I own both systems and I use my PS3 for all my multimedia. The quality is much better. But to each is own.

It's supposed to crash to stop people playing all day? Where do they find these people?

IBM makes the chips and there are several uses for them. Sony is only taking ones that have so many cores working. It's similar to speed binning for a CPU. Maybe only 20% of a CPU series made get get binned as the highest speed model. The chips that can't run that high get binned as lower speed models. It is misleading to quote the bin percent of one model and let people believe the rest are 'broken' when they work fine for a model below.

People are getting price cut confirmations:
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/06/ps3-sold-at-target-for-499-99/

Has the price cut already been put into effect? Potentially, yes. One of our readers has let us know that he was able to get his hands on a 60GB PS3 for no more than $499.99 at a Target today. In our attempts to verify this we called the store he bought it from. They confirmed that the 60GB PS3 was, indeed, in the shop's system at the price of $499.99. Whether this is an error on the individual shop's part, with the price drop being put into effect early, we weren't sure.

We are currently in the process of calling more stores nationwide, to see how isolated this event really is. We will update this post as and when we get more information. If true, then this is an excellent start for what promises to be an excellent E3. Already Microsoft's keynote is overshadowed by Killzone 2. A pricedrop by Sony before the event even starts only adds to the pressure.

[UPDATE 1] A Kansas Target has the 60GB PS3 in its computer at $599

[UPDATE 2] Another tipster has told us that today they sold two at Circuit City at $499. Confused, the manager called it in and got a confirmation that it was correct. We are in the process of verifying this.

[UPDATE 3] A Target store in Rancho Cucamonga in California has confirmed that the 60GB PS3 is in their system for $499. It looks like there's no pattern to which stores are and aren't offering the price cut.

Still not worth it imo, but to each man his own, maybe if you DONT have a 360 and a Wii it might be worth it, but otherwise not really..
