Rumour: Nintendo Feel

So if you haven't already heard the next Nintendo home console (developed under the name project cafe) is going to be shown off at E3 and rumours are saying that the controller will include standard thumbsticks and face-buttons as well as a motion sensor, gyroscope, forward facing camera and a 6-inch touch screen. Mock up of it here (this is not an official photograph)

To add more intrigue a Swedish site is claiming the touch screen will be able to change textures so that you can feel what's on the screen.
– Haptic technology is a form of tactile feedback used to simulate the experience of touching different objects shown on screen. The player can move their fingertips across a surface and clearly feel the difference between soft, smooth or rugged textures.

For the first time ever I'm actually excited about the announcement of a new console.

Seems strange to me. Will have to pay more attention to this.
 
Doesn't sound casual enough for a forthcoming console nicknamed 'Project Cafe'. Frankly, this could be quite literal. If Nintendo released a mug with a joystick-stirrer spoon and a six-inch circular screen that displayed your horoscope, nobody would be surprised.
 
Boy I sure can't wait to play that new Mario game that'll allow me to actually FEEL rough bricks and the leathery skin of a goomba!

Why doesn't the 3DS have this..

Nintendeo are going to be the first people to do smell-o-vision and beaming candy bars through the console. I mean seriously Nintendo are the shit when it comes to pioneering inventive stuff.
 
Sega was better at it. Screen in a controller? How novel!

NES-Cafe - next console will be a coffee maker with mario kart bundle.

Would be more interesting to me than this 'feel' device. I do despair...

As long as this console is under $400 I'll probably end up getting one. The Wii was a tad bit boring but I played many games with relatives and friends with it and those were people I know for a fact never really played many games so I'll probably give the new one a whirl. maybe after the first price drop or deal. Heres hoping that the system is very easy to play with and not so motion oriented. Also it would be nice if the system came with like a 250GB HDD for storage bare minimum with options for more storage. I hated the Wii for the limited space you had on the thing and no DVD/Bluray support
 
I will take this just as how the wii was taken before launch,whit tons of amazing contents and them when the real thing surfaced everyone was dissapointed though it wasnt so bad idea
 
The rumours keep coming, and these sound too good to be true. MASSIVE pinch of salt required:

'The System:

?Uses a custom IBM triple-core CPU running at 3.6GHz per core
?The development kit contains 1gb RAM, but Nintendo have hinted that the console will actually have 1.5gb
?Nintendo will be releasing games that will run 1080p natively. Sources say that with Nintendo’s art style and the power the system has, the games look ‘stunning’.
?The system does run on AMD R700 card, but the architecture is slightly different and the clock speeds are much higher.
?The System resembles JPN/EU SNES machines in color only and not in shape
?The development kit is about the size of a 360, not the console
?Close sources say it’s as if Nintendo is in “damage control” with 3rd party developers. Nintendo is trying really hard to get 3rd parties on board to develop games and have offered incentives such as not releasing big-title Nintendo games in holiday seasons to compete against 3rd party titles.
?Nintendo went to many 3rd party developers on guidance on what they were after with the new console in terms of system specs, controller and online system.
The Controller:

?Nintendo have been keeping this really quiet and have only given developers controller prototypes to start designing games. However, the final controller build with all the features have only been given to Nintendo 1st and 2nd party developers for now.
?Nintendo had planned on inserting a screen on the controller back when the Gamecube was in development, but opted out due to technology not being advanced enough to be functional
?The controller that’s been given to developers has a large 5.7inch hd (960x640pixel) screen, 2 analogue sticks, 4 face buttons, 3 middle buttons (select/home/start in that order), 2 shoulder buttons and 2 triggers.
?The triggers aren’t as deep as the 360’s triggers, but have plenty of push
?The big thing about the screen is that it’s a multi-touch screen, contains it’s own battery and is detachable from the controller unit
?The screen when detached contains its own memory so developers can store data on it, so gamers can play whatever the developer designs for the screen-only use
?When the screen is attached to the controller it works by streaming content directly from the console
?Nintendo are giving developers ideas other than just having it function as a quick menu screen for games while attached, or as a simple tamagochi-like mini-game when detached
?The controller contains a gyroscope, but motion controls isn’t the focus of the controller like it was for the Wii
Games:

?Nintendo will release a Mario platformer as a launch title which hasn’t been done since the N64.
?The Mario platformer looks to be the spiritual successor to Mario 64.
?Gamefreak and EAD are hard at work developing a Pokemon online RPG.
?The Pokemon RPG is not an MMO, but does have a large online emphasis and will be Nintendo’s flagship title when showing off the online capabilities of the console.
?There will be at least one new IP Nintendo will reveal at E3.
?Nintendo is working on a new Zelda, but didn’t reveal anything to developers.
Other:

?Some developers have had the Wii 2 dev kit for going on 2 years now. When the Wii 2 is released in late, that’s 3 years to develop games on.
?Because of such generous development time, Nintendo have pushed 3rd parties to develop high quality games to be released at or near launch.
?Nintendo have sourced an external company to develop their online network, which the developer has commented, surpasses both the PS3 and 360 in terms of speed and functionality.
?Nintendo is pushing for the console to be online 24/7 and have seamless online integration with many of their games
?Friend codes are confirmed to be gone
?Nintendo has been toying with the idea of a game where the main character is your Mii
?Nintendo will be pushing their Pokemon RPG to showcase their online network
?Rockstar are supposedly hard at work in bringing on of their “most popular” titles to the console.'

Apparently not. Other than the detachable screen - pokemon battles in the playground anyone? - everything looks standard. Not long until we find out for sure :)
 
If those rumours are true then it sounds like it could be awesome.
 
They need to just take the 360 controller, chop in half, and add in the Wii infra red with motion-plus quality. Then we'd be able to play Wii-style and 360/PS3 games. It's not rocket science.

If I see a Z button or a ****ing C button, someone's getting killed.

So I assume no backwards compatibility with Wii games?
 
My interest is piqued although I can't say I really trust any of the information out there at this point.

doesn't matter if the console has alota Horsepower when all they make is shitty Mario rehashes for Warbie and his house parties.
I'm not holding my breath but I don't mind being pleasantly surprised...maybe

Perhaps I'm being naive, but I just want to question at its core. Why do I want another screen on my controller? I don't want to look away from the main screen to dick around on the controller. I remember how infuriating it was with Windwaker and the GBA Tingle thing.

So why do the moderators tolerate your presence again? I mean, it's not as if anyone but you would really care if you weren't here anymore.

Anyway, not gonna go for another console. Frankly, like Zephos said, I just don't see the gimmicks really working in its favor. However, based on what I've heard of the new Mario, I will definitely have to play that, so I pray that it's released for Wii as well.

Mario is that important to people that they await the next release. Really? What, if anything, have you heard about this new mario that makes you excited and how is there anything worth hearing about such a franchise?

I know exactly what Im getting with this console except for one question, will it have BC? I never got a wii so if it does have BC i will get it if the price drops
