Running CS in DircectX 7

I am running a GeForce 6600GT and the default setting is to run the hardware at DirectX 9. How do I force it back to DirectX 7?

umm the question is why would you want it in dx7 the card is meant for dx9

Yes but I want to try it in DirectX 7, if it isn't possible then fine but I am pretty sure it is. I might be crazy but meh, help would be appreciated.

You do know you still get smoke in DX7, don't you?

Anyway, add "-dxlevel 70" to your shortcut.

I use it for testing maps in different dx version to make sure all of them look good and run well. However this probably isnt what he is using it for.

You can also use mat_dxlevel 70 to change it while ingame and change back.

Thanks, I have just been used to playing it in dx7 with my old card and wondered
wether the better graphics and flash effects were just distracting and slowing it down

...and yes unfotunately the smoke remains
