Members of the Russian Communist party have called for the new Indiana Jones film to be banned in the country because they say it distorts history.

St Petersburg Communist Party chief Sergei Malinkovich told the Reuters news agency it was "rubbish".

"Why should we agree to that sort of lie and let the West trick our youth?"

He said many Russian cinemagoers were teenagers who would be "completely unaware of what happened in 1957", when the film is set.

"They will go to the cinema and will be sure that in 1957 we made trouble for the United States and almost started a nuclear war.

"It's rubbish... In 1957 the communists did not run with crystal skulls throughout the US."

do they missed almost 50 years of hollywood movies?

sure solaris will go to cinemas to boycott the movie

... so here we have this giant enemy comrade.

+1 if you get the reference.

If I want to watch a truthful history documentary, I will stay on discovery channel rather than go to a cinema.

indiana jones movie distorts history
I declare the last two words redundant, as they are included in the definition of the first three words.

"They will go to the cinema and will be sure that in 1957 we made trouble for the United States and almost started a nuclear war.

:dozey:

Looking at the politics forum, this makes much more sense.

What about the movie Red Dawn? Where the Russians actually start WW3 with us?

Heh, I think this press release makes them look worse than Indy does.

So, you mean to say that monkeys were *not* on the side of the Nazis? That the american government is *not* in possession of the Ark of the Covenant?

"They will go to the cinema and will be sure that in 1957 we made trouble for the United States and almost started a nuclear war.

But they did, Stalinist Russia was all hugs and kisses, lol, oh and fictional movie is fictional, god forbid.

off course they have it,do you think they have nuclear bombs? they just trow the ark over the japanese but it got destroyed so they have to develop one,but they could find pieces of it and could build the other atomics bomb whit it,one litle stitch is enough, the other countryes that have nuclear bombs is cuz they have send spies to take some remains of it

Are you serious? Sure no ones underpants are whiter than white when it comes to the history books, but the almost unanimous brainwashing of the entire US population by the mainstream media into operating on a gut response level to fear 'Baby eating Communists' without remotely seeing them as human beings, with wants, needs, hopes, fears, and love for their families is a far greater evil. The entire reason Khrushchev wanted missiles in Cuba was to act as a deterrent against the necklace of Nuclear missiles the US had already aimed at the USSR at the time. Given the 'better dead than red' attitude of the US at the time, Khrushchev actually feared a US president getting into power who might just be insane enough to engage in what they might reason would be a pre-emptive strike. After all it would of been Europe that took the beating on Americas behalf rather than Kansas.

Consider how they've successfully managed to demonize Ahmadinejad to the point that even on his recent visit to the united states even some academics were labelling him a dictator, even though the man was elected by the people (men & women), and has a fixed term of office, or how even though everyone with half a brain knows Ahmadinejad didn't say exactly 'Israel should be wiped from the map' or that 'the holocaust is a fairy tale' it hasn't stopped mainstream media from repeating those radical misinterpretations again, and again and again until the lie has become far bigger than the truth:-

Now I'm not going to defend what the guy did say, but I know that the way they painted it was utter bullshit compared to what was really said.

Simmer down now :p I didn't say a thing about the United States, we were pretty awful in terms of distortion too. No need to go railing on me for something I didn't say. Admittedly the Soviet Union was much worse in this respect, but the US was (and is) no saint by comparison.

We had God on our side, and no wall of text will make that any less true.

Aye, overreact much, Kadayi?

I'm just pointing out a fact. Sure Stalin was a ****, but the USSR ended a long time ago, and they were never the global threat the US media circus made out. I can appreciate why the Russians are pissed tbh. Sure, it's a kids film, but the image it portrays is out of date and pretty negative. It's kind of akin to portraying Jews with hooked noses, or black people as golliwogs. Just because it's pulp doesn't make it right. :dozey:

Hey, I'm offended because I'm from Indiana, the main character goes by the name Indiana, and...and...um...well I guess there isn't any reason, but I'm still offended....
But seriously Kadayi....check these out: "Russians" and "Nikita". These are from the end of the Cold War, and were very popular in the States. Not everyone in America swallowed the propaganda.....

But they didn't, cause when they opened the ark, God made all their faces melt.

Aaaactualy, only one of the fellows suffered from a face melt. Belloc's head exploded, and the other fellow... Uh... Died in some other manner.

Belloc's head exploded...

Then out of no where BOOM happend and the back of the espcape ship fell open n one of the army guys fell out and explodd in space

So to sum this all up:

Russian communist party: Indiana Jones movie hurt our feelings.;(

Me: Good

Then out of no where BOOM happend and the back of the espcape ship fell open n one of the army guys fell out and explodd in space

and then a nother army guy said nooooOO he was my brother! and then got tired and sletp.

Yeah...

Form what my dad told me in the "soviet" version of the history books only Russians were responsible for inventions major scientific/geographic discoveries etc. :|

Not everyone in America swallowed the propaganda.....

You throw up a couple of English performers songs as proof? You know about the same time everyone was lapping up 'Red Dawn' and going on about how accurate it was? Accurate that the Russians and Cubans (lol) were poised to invade the good ole USA at the drop of a hat. The US military loved that film so much they named the operation to capture Saddam Hussian after it."Operation Red Dawn was so fitting because it was a patriotic, pro-American movie.".

And where exactly did your father study Russian History? Did he major at St Antonys College perhaps? :dozey:

... You misunderstand. This is the "history" everyone was forced to learn right here in my country(and every other country that was behind the iron curtain). They even had the nerve to say in the "true" version of history that the region "Moldova" (which they took from us by force) was rightfully theirs and we were trespassing.

So yeah, the russian communist party complaining about someone else distorting history about them, well whoop di ****ing doo. I hope your faces melted when you saw the movie.

First you say your Dad tells you one thing. The next your saying you were taught it? Personally I'm pretty skeptical on your claims tbh. But regardless misrepresentation is never acceptable. If you don't understand that, then you've learnt nothing. :dozey:

You shoot the grandson for the sins of his great grandfather?

but the USSR ended a long time ago

To be replaced by incompetent Yeltsin and then succeeded by prospective tyrant, Vladimir Putin and his circle of nationalist stirring back scratchers that are for whatever reasons, either believing it themselves or not, intent on propagating this cold war mentality that the west is out to surround Russia and rape her beaten corpse repeatedly, and while she is thrashing out squirming giving the usual "you wont take me alive!" type shit, the western dudes are standing around wondering WTF she's smoking.

I know its an alien concept for Russia but FFS, I figured that when Communism collapsed, Russia would be a fairly easy jump to liberal and normal western democracy.

But this is all off-topic, the point is, /lolz @ communist party.

Hopefully most Russians are as awesome as I think they are and wont listen to the party that basically oppressed them and their occupied neighbours for decades.

Why would the Russians want to model themselves on a system that's as broken and bent as US Democracy? There's nothing fair or Liberal about it. You have 2 parties both up to their eyes in serving the needs of special interest groups over those of the people. The invasion of Iraq didn't serve the US publics needs in any way whatsoever.

He was saying that when he was a kid he learnt the Soviet-imposed version of history, and then later blahblah blah.

AFAIK the current Russian Communist Party is in no way linked to the old one? Hell, as it is now half the old intelligenciers are still in power, not running around trying to scrape up votes of all things. So the Party can accuse people of historical distortion as much as they like.

Red Alert, my friends, Red Alert.
It's a catastrophe!

I nerver said anything about proof. I tried to show you an example of pop culture. Some people consider pop culture as being indicative of the state of a society. So, you bring up Red Dawn. Fine. But how do you know the US military loved the film? Do not hang the opinions of 1 million troops (1 million was just in the Army) on the name of some operation, and the quote of some Army captain who named the operation. Here you are, seemingly stating that the Soviet Union wasn't as bad as the American propaganda made it seem, and I'm agreeing with you, and you want to bump heads with me. Anyway:
I guess growing up in the Reagan era; the 2 years in the late 80's that I was stationed in Herzogenaurach Germany, 90 kms from what was then Checzlovakia; and the guard duty I actually pulled at Checkpoint Charlie doesn't allow me any basis for my opinion. I guess you know more about the Cold War than I ever will....The Soviets were as pacifistic as the Swiss, you've convinced me....Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta get one of these to wear to the Memorial Day parade.....
