S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky

Shame they insist on sticking to -STATIC- skyboxes that are basically just one picture fading into a totally different one, they should learn a thing or two from Crackdown or Far Cry 2 when it comes to cool, procedurally generated skies.

Looks gorgeous. I can't wait for this now.

can't wait for it, its right before GT200-Nvidia next true gen card hit the market.

I would say so I imagine it will have the same requirements as the original game.

Guys, lets not forget that it will be delayed ATLEAST 5 years!:p

It'll be very outdated by then!:(

nothing new, looks meh
I dunno the rainmap looks pretty new to me in terms of when you saw it only coated half of the train carriage in rain-soaked shader, leaving the covered half totally dry. I don't think I've seen that in any other game so far.

Yeah, I didn't really get that rainmap thing. How does that work? Or better yet, what is it? I know what a shadowmap is, but if it's a rainmap, does that mean that the rain will fall the same places all the time, granted the maps aren't moved? Really confused.

I suppose im trying to compare it to crysis, might not be very fair...

It looks pretty good in general though, as long as frame rates are good

Well as I understand it, like shadows are cast on objects, based on shadow maps that are defined when creating the model (but may be altered in game dynamically), the same is true for rainmaps. In real life, if you leave something like a table half outside and half inside, as long as the rain falls straight down you'll have a half wet table. The wet half would probably look darker, and would have that sheen over it that reflects slightly. Rainmaps are probably just that, made with all models, but then dynamically altered depending on which parts of the model are 'hit' by the rain.

Either that or it's something like a calculation done with the rain that attaches a small 'reflect + darken' shader to a radius around where the rain lands. Either way, it makes rain look realistic and pretty.

Oh my god, the rain, smoke, lightning effects, and the water. Hot.

If that's what rainmaps are, they already had that in STALKER. Quite cool to step inside, hearing the rain fade away and seeing it only enter through holes in the roof.

It should have already been out last month... but it got delayed. I was so waiting for it, too. D:

The true question is whether these truly are DX10 features, or if we're gonna see it cracked within days to work better on DX9...

Stunning! Seems Crysis-like. Now, let me steal a pc from NASA laboratories to play it.

To me it sort of has that Half-life 2 "Source engine" look to it

IIRC though, the floor inside where it was raining didn't look wet, you just saw the raindrops hitting the ground, leaving no immediate effect.

DX10 is pretty much DX9, just heavily optimized. Chances are you could get it working in Dx9, but performance won't be the same. Also Bioshock has better protection against users 'hacking' DX10 into DX9, so it may actually be impossible.

Developers: Pleeeeease focus on making it bug free. Those are very very nice graphics, and the storyline/environment/gameplay are ace (in my opinion) - just make sure it works.

Concerned fan: We will take that into consideration. Thank you for your input. Next time please send your comments via email, so we can actually get them and not have Krynn pretend to be a developer and respond to your posts.

Considering how much a lag fest the original was when it first game came out, I am going to be skepticle about this, till the reviews come out

Sorry, only Radon will work.

I remember a story that people in late victorian era thought that Radon was beneficial to your health, so a lot of people drank the stuff :D
