When HL² finally comes out, Stalker (man is this going to be a kickass game or what?) has just come out, because of that HL² will lose many buyers.

What do you say about that theory?

STALKER is due in 2005, Half-Life 2 will have probably been out for a long while before then.

They are two different types of games and ill be picking them both up.

check out sig :)

Stalker's coming out in 2005. We might have HL2 by then. Otherwise, if my memory serves me right, Munro owes me a copy of HL2.

Also Stalker is probably going to suck. The videos look great, sure, but I've a strong feeling it's going to be another Far Cry.

I doubt that S.T.A.L.K.E.R sales would bother Half-Life 2 too much. I mean, industry analysts didn't think that the release of Doom 3 would detract from Half-Life 2 sales.

Please elaborate.

But if they're released about the same time, then most people have to make a choice on which game to get, and when they can afford a game again there might be new ones out that are more appealing than the one they didn't choose the time before. Am I making sense?

I dont find Stalker very attractive (yet)
I just dont know what to do anymore...this situation is ruining me...
Oh God...just give us the game
I think im gonna cry...yes...weeping is solution...
Anyway, from all the info weve been given on both games im still anticipating HL2 more than Stalker...but who knows...
Everyone here seems to think that HL2 is just going to be the best game ever and if not its at least gonna be real close to it... On a thread with predicting the review results everyones been shooting numbers like 98, 96, 95...
I really hope (and i sorta believe it too) that this is gonna be true...but we dont know NOTHING about how good the game is gonna be... Just because weve seen incredible physics, manipulator and so on it doesnt mean Hl2 is gonna be the best...Of course i trust valve and have my confidence in their abilities...im just rying to be prepaired for the worst (worst = HL2 getting less than 90 %)
My point is...How can we tell that we would rather buy Stalker instead of HL2 when we dont even know how good is HL2 going to be...And i dont understand how someone whos been looking forward for the game can state that he no longer wants to buy cause its been delayed so much...ITS HLAF LIFE 2 for chistsakes...

Not really.

STALKER was pushed back until 2005 to avoid going into competition with HL2. That kinda shows how well the publishers think it will fend off with HL2.

I thought it was just because they needed more time to finish it? That made sense to me as what they're doing is pretty damn ambitious.

What I'm trying to say is that not all people can afford to buy several expensive games at one time. And if there are two games they want, they have to make a choice about which one to get.
Not everyone would choose HL².

That's partly the reason. But the main reaosn that it was pushed back so far was top avoid competition with HL2 and Doom 3 (I remember reading about this on these forums, the publishers said it). The developers said that they'd take the time to polish the game some more.

I also heard about how they pushed it back because of HL2 but reading on the forums it doesnt sound like that, it sounds like they needed more time.

Yup.. FarCry was great except for those mutant monkey thingies...
Can't see what that guy thought was so wrong about it...

Not everyone would choose HL².

If two games I wanted came out at the same time I would buy one and then I would buy the second one when I no longer play the first one/can afford the second one.

Looking forward to friday when R:TW, Evil Genius and WH40k dawn of war comes out here!

I say that it's a bullshit theory (and repeated every single week) that isn't connected to reality.

And Industry analysts have said that if people had the choice between Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, they'd buy Half-Life 2. I find it had to believe that Stalker has more selling power than Half-Life 2.

The quote was (paraphrased because I can't be bothered to look it up). "Not everyone who buys Half-Life 2 will buy Doom 3, but it certain works the other way round".

STALKER looks more laggy than death.... this thing will need a machine like crazy to run it good gfx.

As wonderful as STALKER looks, the game is so very ambitious in what it tries to achieve (more so than HL2) that if any of those elements don't work just right, the game could be a disaster.

I commend GSC for their ambition but I think they know the risks that are involved with the project.

Im bleeding to play Stalker, I find the game very beautiful looking, dont know much about the gameplay but from what ive heard and seen on video/previews it could turn out to be very fun.

stalker looks like it's going to be a fun game, but i imagine it wont appeal to everyone who normally buy this kind of game because of its RPG elements putting them off.

Even if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is an amazing game, most people are going to pick up Half-Life 2 simply because 1) It's more anticipated among the general populace and 2) More people who aren't as in to games as we are will know more about Half-Life 2 than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. . Half-Life 2 is a big big game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is an unknown, if they're released around the same time then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. won't detract from HL2's sales, quite the opposite, it's possible S.T.A.L.K.E.R. might not receive the sales it deserves.

I completely forgot about that. Munro, too, owes me a copy of HL2 if it doesn't come out in 2004! :)

If I'd have to choose between HL2 or Stalker, i'd take the Sims2 anytime

If I had to choose between HL2 or STALKER, I'd take WoW anytime

I severely doubt that.

Yeah, if that happens he owes me a copy too! *look's around shiftily*

I shall be buying both games, they both look fooking brilliant!

I have to admit...STALKER does look a little bit (screw it, alot better) than HL2, then again, it may just be because not i'm too excited about HL2 anymore...

I actually think S.TA.L.K.E.R will be a surprise hit. Everyone seems to underestimate it's potential

STALKER does LOOK better than HL2 (at least the scenery does - the player/NPC models look positively awful :p) but the issue is the gameplay. STALKER is a very ambitious project with what it sets out to accomplish.

It could either be an absolutely revolutionary game (yes - not even HL2 is revolutionary not now, not in 2003) or an unmitigated disaster.

People who like these games and have a certain amount of cash-flow will pick up both titles. Stalker and fear look to be great titles, but I don't think even the developers of those games think they will be "pwning" hl2.

Hopefully they will all be great titles worth spending my hard-earned cash on.

.bog.

You're one sad sad individual if you're not excited about Half-Life 2 and you're posting on these boards...oh, you must be a troll.
