S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Worth Playing?

I checked on systems requirments lab, and it says this game wont run on my computer, which upsets me, considering the graphics are lower looking than HL2 graphics, and HL2 runs fine on my computer.

Not because of the textures and stuff, it's mostly because of the lightning. Using static lightning you will be fine I guess, most people are, but what are your specs anyway?

Yeah, thats the one. Once you meet that fella you're at the end of the tunnel. There is a ladder leading out of the place at the end of the hall.

Hey, I got to that point some time ago, it's not so scary, bloodsuckers are scarier.
Hell, I think it's face is kind of funny... But that's just me. Bloodsuckers have much more effect on me D:

Pfft, bloodsuckers dont **** with your head. They just turn on a shitty cloak that still lets me see them.

Although the first one I saw (in the tunnel) scared the bajeezus out of me, and is probably what set me in the "oh shit oh shit oh shit... OH WHAT THE FUCK!" mood for the mind**** mutant.

Its not the brightness that gets me, its the mutant himself. First time I played the game I freaking flipped out when he did that physic mind-zoom bullshit and gtfo'd as fast as I could. When I got outside I paused the game, and had to leave my room and get a drink.

My hand was shaking when I picked up the glass.

So every time i started playing the game again, I just sprint as fast as I can past that part so I never have to see him again. But now im ****ed, because I have to go back in, and he might be roaming around somewhere else.

;( :rolling:

So recently I got the objective of going to the Dark Valley to get to the X18 labs... so this is going to be the first time I go to the Dark Valley and well... I heard things about those places. Is it too scary there? Because I don't want to go, I'm scared. :frown: :(

I'm afraid to watch that too because well, that's a spoiler. I want to be ****ing scared without having watched anything, but I'm afraid of going there D:

Look a few boxes are going to fly at you and you may encounter a problem with fire. It ain't that bad. Just man up, walk in and shoot up the place.

If I look at it that way... well... all right.

I used to have that reaction to that mutant, until I found an exploitish way to kill him which ruined it.

Amazing game, I may re-play soon after I get through a few other games. (Doing Space Quest series all in a row now.)

Looks like they never die. So hard to kill. Are there many throughout the game?

Just a few, but you CAN kill them- they just take a lot of damage. However, they really don't drop shit IIRC.

God I miss that game :D

Run up and stab the controllers in the face. Thats the quickest and safest way to kill em since they have no melee attack.

BTW I LOVE STALKER!

I thought I hated the game at first (While I was still wandering around the first area), but after I had given it up for a week or two I started to recall little things about it that were kind of neat so I tried again. Then I was hooked. :)

Favorite weapon is the Vintar Sniper rifle doubly so since it has the built in silencer. Best combo of accuracy, speed, power, and stealth. The Sniper VLA w/ scope is a good substitute (doesn't have as good a zoom as the vintar though) if you prefer the spray and pray approach instead of the sneak and headshot approach. The Dragonuv is an impressive sniper rifle, however it is unsilenced and as soon as you fire that puppy every enemy all the way to the reactor will know where you are due to the sharp crack and boom of gunfire it makes. That and Dragonuv ammo is ridiculously expensive :P

For fun, you should load up a trader mod and cheat yourself a bunch of rubles, then buy rocket launchers for all the Stalkers in garbage. After that every so often you'll hear a gigantic *BOOOOOOM* and find a camp of dead stalkers after someone attempted to take out a wandering dog with an RPG :)

When I do serious play throughs I tend to buy quality shotguns for all the garbage stalkers though, helps to keep the place clear of bandits and dogs.

I LOVE it when a game makes you feel that way. I know exactly what you are talking about. The first time I played the original AVP when it very first came out years ago, made me feel that way. I remember getting a bad case of the goosebumps.

can you play this game on vista?

i've been wanted to play this game for a while but afraid it might not run or run into bunch of crash after wasting 40 bucks.

They actually use the stuff you sell them? I didnt know that.

I know you can with mods, I'm not sure if it works in the stock game however?

To kill Controllers (Somewhat 'cheap')

You can "LOS" their attack as it charges by ducking behind hard cover. For the first one you fight in the tunnel, this means the doorway before the ladders. You can also use the doorway for the X16 controller, as well as other things in that room. Just dodge their attack, and pop out for some quick bursts.

Don't sell it to em, just drop it in front of them (needs to be loaded or they won't pick it up) and they'll drop their puny Viper5 or Sawn-off and pick up the better weapon. Some of the ones that have AKM's won't pick up other weapons however. Screenshots as proof, the last couple are me fooling around. You can kill the professors inside the ecolab by firing an RPG at the wall nearest them from outside. I've managed to kill the professor you meet at Merc territory and damage the trader professor (you can see he is now my enemy in the contacts list).

the part in the video is where i stopped playing because it scared the hell out of me

I just played it again, but i think im still screwed. I went into the tunnel, got to the hidden room and completed the objective, and then went back out the way i came in, but the "get out of tunnel" objective is still active.

Hopefully I can just go to the exit on the outside, go in, and that will register as completing it, then just go back out again.

Seriously, **** that mutant.

different exit mate

by using Float32 for the graphics.....this game really come to life.

What exactly does Float32 do? I installed it but see no difference in visuals or performance.

edit: NM it requires SM3.0

did you meat the min requirement of the mod ? did you follow the installation instructions ?

the performance increased by 13fps and IQ.

full vector calculations, better bump-mapping, and real specular effects, all while improving the frame rate by 20 percent or more.

I USE SLI 7800GTX.....
