Sad story :(

Her life might truly suck donkey balls.. poor thing. I feel like satan himself saying this but if I had no bones in my face and coulden't be recontructed i'd probably run to some kind-of colony or kill myself. Some girls have a hard enough time with a tiny bit of pudge (even hot girls get real self contious). That's just a reallyl sad situation that will probably just get sadder and with her skull being open so much she will probably end up with brain damage or swelling and ultimately die or be severly mentally handi-capped.. damn...

But I mean... how late in the pregnancy is something like this detectable?

Wow if I was that father, I dont think I could let my wife see what happened to the child. I would probably ask the doctors to tell her that the baby didnt make it or something, and maybe they'd have to..well, kill her and pretend she just didnt make it<- but I dont think I could live life after that experience, and knowing I lied like that...
That father did the right thing for his daughter, and It's good to see that her family loves her.

Just wanted to say something that things like this bring to my mind and it's meant in no way as a challenge or insult to anybody who believes in things I might be questioning, just a thought that comes into my head.

For what good reason would a half-decent God do something like that? This isn't that old "why is there suffering?" question, it's more of a curiosity as to why, from seemingly doing nothing to deserve it, those parents and that girl are going to have to live the next years of their lives as they now will while others won't have such an enormous challenge.

I'm taking a big risk in saying this kind of thing in a forum because it can sometimes be the kind of subject that gets raised and totally destroys a thread but I always try to have a genuine curiosity about these things rather than an agressive disbelief.

I hope that anyone who responds to this post in particular will try and maintain the hopefully respectful attitude towards the subject that I have tried to provide.

I don't think it would be any for anybody to answer that question. Nobody knows. I just think that even because god would allow a birth defect such as that, it doesn't mean that he wouldn't show her just as much love as any of his other children. Many religious people of my faith believe that all people must endure challenges and suffering in life, and there is only so much that god can do to shelter us from it. We must live our lives as we may, but should, despite these hardships still find our way to god up the straight and narrow, rocky path, we will be doubly blessed.

Hmmmm, I think I at least agree with the first part of your post in that nobody here can really answer the question ;)

So I think I might delete the post if I can. It was a bit of a bad idea really...

EDIT: Oh, so it seems that's impossible then... Um... Well...
I just hope this doesn't turn into one of those awful cliched threads where people start discussing religion forever when we can't ever truly know so it's just a waste of all our time and then people get angry and then the Christmas tree falls over or holiday tree or whatever Americans call it to be politically correct these days lol.
I think I'm going to stop digging there really ;)

You can leave it, I don't think anyone is going to attempt to de-rail the thread.

Honistly i dont think i will be able to keep it. Dont know i think as soon as docters find out something like that is wrong with the kid. They should have a abortion. Why would you let a kid be born like that?

Insensitive twit. Don't refer to her as "it". Moron. :flame:

Maybe if you ever got a girlfriend who you loved and decided to have children you would'nt just up and say "**** it - lets kill her because she does'nt fit in the world" Dick.

Hey, it's just a way of talking about things like that. When you talk about an unborn baby, it's generally referred to as it.
Plus, it's not as if babies are always hard to come by. The baby can't make the decision on whether or not it should die, therefore it's in the hands of the parents and it's future is entirely the parents responsibility *in my humble opinion*.
It's the parents' call and, I'm personally inclined to make whatever choice is best for the most people in this specific occasion.

That child is proof that abortion is wrong, reguardless of how deformed a person may be. She brought more love and care to a household, thus contributing to the betterment of others.

That's a bit of a silly statement. If the baby had been aborted, they could have had a baby without that deformity that would, from the first day of her life, have many many more opportunities in life and almost definitely a happier existence for every individual she came in contact with.

Obviously, this is a bit deterministic but I'm just saying that it's not proof that abortion is wrong in the slightest. If you did have proof that abortion was wrong that had a good logical grounding to it that showed it benefitted everyone, I would gladly agree with you.

Let's not get off topic though!

It's not proof that abortion is wrong, but it sure isn't proof that abortion is a good thing either.

Either way, this is sad, and anyone who feels apathetic about it sucks.

The worst thing about this was the dick trying to sell me a Ford at the begining...

The problem is with the girl, at the moment human medicine is very good at keeping people alive well after the point they should of died. But pretty much useless at fixing defects like this. I really feel sorry for the kid because there is nothing that can be done for her in all honesty. I hope she has a pleasant life, no matter how brief.

The parents views might of been different though, had they found out 10 weeks or so into the pregnancy that their little baby had such a rare and massive condition?

Whether i would abort my child or not would depend on many things, the condition, my partner and her views, the doctors opinion, how far along the pregnancy was, etc. If the baby was only going to survive for a few years before dying without anything we could do and it was caught early enough in the pregnancy, i would definately consider abortion, but like i said, it would depend on my partner and what the doctor says.
