It's illegal to sell or import bubblegum, chewing it is technically legal but if you cant obtain it its as good as illegal.
 
Also, don't they have the death penalty for minor drug offences?

A. Who said that rights in the US were being constricted? We can do/say a lot of crap, more than even other Western nations. Sure, the Patriot act gives the government more leeway than it should probably have, but we still have our guarateed 1st amendment rights (freedom of speech, press, etc.).

B. That really sucks for you. Somebody should start calling these countries out for this sort of thing. I mean you're in a democracy right? That's just wrong.
