Salvage?

I've been thinking about working on a rather simple multi player mod for HL2 for a while and have been working on learning how to code. i haven't decided yet if I'm going to go through with creating the mod yet and was wondering if people would even have an interest in playing it.

as the title suggests the name i have picked for the mod is Salvage

anyway the rough idea for the mod came from a game I've been waiting to come out from NSoft called auto assault and also because i absolutely love the vehicle levels in HL2 single player.

the setting is a post apocalyptic world where crime runs rampant and lone wolfs, gangs, and vigilantes are in constant conflict for what little useful materials are left in the world.

maps will span from large barren deserts to shattered urban streets. players will start on foot and have to scour the map for gear and transportation. from here is where the mod really starts to show its stuff. once players have acquired a vehicle they will have to scavenge what they can from builds or other players to improve their vehicles. this could be something as simple as wielding a piece of scrap metal to the side to give a little protection or mounting a rifle to the frame for some firepower. the standard game play will be FFA but I'm hoping to encourage players to form tentative alliances, back stab, etc to their harts content.

so what do ya ll think do you think the HL2 community would be interested in a mod like this or is it just a waste of time?

sounds like a sweet idea. just yeah, the whole mod development idea isnt for the weak in diligence. if you believe in the idea , do it. if you find yourself needing other peoples input, you better take a second look at what you really want to be doing with your time.

Hmm, it sounds as though each round would take way too long to play, people (and I) would lose interest quickly if the entire game revolved around doing little complex things, only to have it completely wiped the next round. Sounds like too much work and not enough reward, especially under the short time span of what HL2 was built for in terms of average round life. You're giving the player way too much freedom, too much that he's wandering around in this big map wondering what the phuck is going on and where everyone else is. It's all too much of a burden for a player, too complex for a player to do thirty times in a row on a limited map rotation. I like the idea, it would be pretty neat to customize a vehicle on the basis of whats left, kind of a utalitarian effect to the theme.

their wouldn't be rounds and the only time you would lose your hard work would be if you died and someone hijacked your gear (which you could do in return to get it back) or if the map was changed. dieing simple would cause you to instantly respawn at a random respawn point

it always wouldn't require to many complexe things i mean how hard is it to go

"ow look a piece of scrap metal" or "ow look a weapon i can mount"
get out of vehicle
wield metal/gun to frame
get back in

i am diligent and i do believe in myself i just want to make something that community can enjoy while i enjoy myself by making it.
