Sam and Max Sequel Cancelled?!

I know it fecking sucks!!

I was really looking forward to it :(

But you gotta admit though... This is better than them releasing some crap with the Sam & Max name on it... :imu:

Lucas Arts are really ****ing about with the adventure gaming community, they just have one goal to stay alive with stupid star wars games, if they continue this they will follow westwood and be eaten alive.
Let em burn!

NO! NO! NO! I was looking foward to this game!

what a ****ing tragedy...seriously...i feel sick.

/me punches monitor

Dammit! Now I have to go buy a new monitor. F*ck you Lucas!

I'm hoping they leverage the work they've done into something else, or pick up work on it at a later time. The press release essentially said they don't think it would sell right now.

Wow, That was one of the 10 top ten games of 2004 in PC Gamers Febuary Issue. That sucks, it looked really interesting and fresh. Lukas, that fat old bas*ard

The game would have done well because Steve Purcell, the creator of Sam & Max was working with LucasArts with the project. But on the other hand, the last LucasArts game that I personally enjoyed was Grim Fandango. And that was at least 5 years ago.

Oh well. Best not to mess with the orginals anyway.

This really is tragic for the adventure genre. I miss the old LucasArts... before the new Star Wars movies. They really changed everything under the Lucas brand for the worse. I grew up with these games, and getting a hold of S&M2 would have been like re-uniting with old friends. Thank you to the execs at Lucasarts for never allowing that to happen... and they were so close to release. There is no justice. :( :( :(

lucas ruins everything.... 1st episode 1,2, and 3... now the gaming industry...

A little more thinking, and I've decided that I would've been less upset if HL2 had been canned.

I miss Sam and Max and adventure gaming. :(

Haha, I have no idea what this is! :P

Seriously. You missed out on something special if you've never played a Lucasarts adventure game from the early 90's. You must be pretty young, I'm guessing?

No...

I've only played an adventure game once for a few minutes. Myst, I think it was... or that other one that's just like it but has a different name... it was pretty stupid! :O

I've never played Myst.

But I have played Sam & Max, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle and The Dig all multiple times. Now, shut up. You're talking about something you have no idea about. Never a good idea.

Oh so sorry! I had no idea I was even talking about this Sam and Max!

Waaaait...

Oh yeah! That's right! All I said was I had no idea what it was! How 'bout that!

Don't get bitter.

Comparing these games to Myst was just one of the most braindead things I've ever heard.

And you owe it to yourself to find out what Sam and Max is... it tends to be on every "Top 100 games of alltime" list you'll ever see. That's for a reason.

But, I guess people like you that have no patience for a game that requires some thought and an appreciation for great design are the reason why the marketing fools at Lucasarts think this isn't a great time to release an adventure game. Let's go and play the next assembly line FPS.

Oh, and I'm VERY bitter.

Yes, I see... only such a person would insinuate that I'm an idiot because I haven't played a couple of games.

No, I didn't insinuate that at all. I did insinuate that you're closed-minded and impatient though, because you said this:

Comparing any of these games to Myst is a very bad idea. That will get a negative reaction out of any LA adventure game fan.

I'm sure there's some movies or games that played a big part in your childhood. If I were to talk stupidly about them, I'm sure it would grate on your nerves a little.

I draw comfort from the fact that the game probably would have been crap anyway. Lucasarts are not what they once were. They have lost the ability to make good games.

Some of my fondest gaming memories are of Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, Full Throttle and The Dig. It's a pity that genre of game has completely died in the ass.

Don't forget the Monkey Island games either. Hell, even Labyrinth on the Commodore 64 was a true classic. Grim Fandango was the end of an era. ;(

Steve Purcell said the game was shaping up very nicely, and he was happy with the story and the jokes. He said he felt sorry for the dev team that had put their heart into making the game special. When they cancelled Full Throttle 2, it was because it was looking crap and had been criticized by the press. S&M2 on the other hand, had very good press and was looking very good. Good enough to perhaps revitalize the genre... The reason for cancelling it is because they felt it would not make enough of a profit to warrant release.

They don't care how good the game could have been, more so that the general gaming populace only cares for big explosions and constant gunfire nowadays. It's so very sad.

Every new upcoming LucasArts adventure game gets cancelled just because of some ****ed up FPS and Star Wars game...

/me runs and hides in a dark corner crying his eyes out ;(

I really can't get this off my mind. No more Lucasarts adventure games. Indeed some of the saddest news in gaming, ever. ;(

It may not amount to anything but I hope everyone here that cares enough has emailed [email protected]...

Adventure games are not my thing...... but i know how it feels when some dipshit CEO decides they could save .50c and cancels an awsome game.

Really, it's not just the game. It's the characters and the wonderfully witty script that made Sam and Max:HTR so good. And it's not only a punch in the face to fans of the characters, it's also a mighty blow to the adventure genre full stop. To those of us who love adventure games, this is like cancelling Half-Life 2, and not having Doom 3, Far Cry, Stalker or any other game on the horizon. Very bleak. ;(

I honestly would trade HL2's existence for S&M2...

I loved the first one.

There really are a lot of morons on this planet, aren't there?
