did anybody else find the part where you can touch the sand because of the antlions alot like the movie tremors...

Yes. And the parts with the thumpers made me think of DUNE.

havnt seen it, i bhopped through sandtraps on 9hp, i didnt want to die so sandtraps didnt have a big impact on me

I didn't figure out until later that the Thumpers did anything (in fact not until I had bugbait and all the antlions were on my side and wouldn't follow me past the stinking things.)

man, those thumpers were a godsend, i'd just hide there while they all sat around watching me

Except in Dune, the thumpers attracted the critters rather than repelled them.

There is another scifi movie that features mechanical buzzsaw creatures that will attack you from under the sand. It also had human-appearing bots that would blow up when you approached them. The name escapes me tho.

There is also a Philip K. Dick story that I think this movie above was based on.

YES! F**KING Awesome movie too! if you ever want to see a dystopian future epic where humans reap the leftovers of their own war on each other after turning to machines to finish it, this is the one to watch. It looked like it would be such CRAP from the previews, but I really loved this one (I gotta add this one to my x-mast list now that I have remembered it).

Yeah me neither. I thought those were oil wells. lol. I don't see how anyone could figure that out other than guessing.

haha, tremors are so good. even #3 where they attempted that lame-funny style, it was still pretty good [why the hell was that boat there].

Sweet, I was just going to look for a movie about a dystopian future, where humans reap the leftovers of their own war on each other after turning to machines to finish it.

Seriously though, this is old. Why haven't I seen it? Sounds cool.

Yea i didn't figure it out right away, but it didn't take me long, because I knew there was no way they were just useless, there had to be a reason for them. I thought at first they attracted them (stupid) so I would shut them off, then they came anyways, so I tried it the other way, and wollah!

I turned them all off. I thought "This looks Combine made. Combine = bad so I'll turn them off".

Figured it out sometime before I got Bugbait, though.

haha a lot of the sandtraps bit reminded me of dune, i was waiting for a huge worm with a flaming mouth and chrystal teeth to jump out of the sand and swallow a thumper :p

what the hell is a thumper??? and are there any in HL???
A thumper is the mecanical thing that stomps on the ground, keeping antlions away. None in HL1

I had absolutely no idea what they did until I had the pherepods [pheremones?] and the bugs wouldnt follow me past a thumper. I remembered back to the bit where you could turn one on and I though "oh goddamnit. I could have saved myself a lot of stress and ammo."
