I would pick up the 138$ model for a 9600XT card.
You should be able to play with good settings in Doom3 but not spectacular.
The 9600 series is what HL2 targeted for DX9 playability. It is pretty close to the 9800 at 1024x768.
That's not the case for other games though.

If you want to spend more than 140$ then I would just jump right up to the 9800Pro for under 200$. Very much worth it's price considering it was worth it's price back when it was 399$.

its a SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "ATLANTIS RADEON 9600XT" OEM Lite Box

which is good i guess will i enjoy playing halflife2 with 9600 xt 128 MB card well i right now have 64 MB Intergrated LOL
what will run smoother on any computer halflife2 or doom3?

Probably would be a safe bet to say, with the 9600XT, Half-Life 2. ;)
Should be able to play at 1024x768 with great DX9 settings and maybe even 2xAA/AF.

Doom3 probably would be lowered resolution (800x600 perhaps) and maybe effects on medium compression. Should ask someone who has played Doom3 with their 9600XT.

wow i think it would be good for halflife2 that card should last about 3-4 years im guessing :)

this is pretty good i think

Chipset/Core Speed: ATI RADEON 9600XT/500MHz
Memory/Effective Speed: 128MB DDR/600MHz

well currently my comp specs

768 MB Ram
2.0 GHz
40 GB Hardrive
64 MB graphica card im betting that xt 9600 will run games better the most people cause i have alot of ram am i correct?

i need other opnions also Thanks!!

come on guyes please post some more comments thanks

get a 9600 pro and everclock it. Youll save like 50 bucks at least. I play Doom 3 at 800x600 on medium with a 9600 SE and get like 26 FPS, a pro at XT speeds would get like 30-35. Id just get a 9600 pro and OC it.

google a program called ATITool. It increase the core and memory clock speed to get it to go faster.

Chipset/Core Speed: ATI RADEON 9600XT/500MHz
Memory/Effective Speed: 128MB DDR/600MHz

you could prolly get that to 550/650 easy from a XT and get to XT speeds from a 9600 pro easy, maybe even higher dpending on the stockin cooling or if your willin to dish out for extra cooling.

ok any other comments want many people to post here lol

I have the exact same card, running on an AMD64 3000+.

I must say i'm pretty pleased with it. D3 runs in High Detail at 800x600, so i'm not really worried about HL2.
Also (and sometimes overlooked) it has pretty good 2d output, so my desktop looks crispy clear at 1900x1200.

Ow yeah, mine had the HL2 coupon wich is nice ;)

I think you should save up a little more for a 9800 pro, it's really worth the money and will beat the 9600xt in any game, and it will last a long time. But if you can't, the 9600xt 128mb you had picked out first is the best choice. Don't get a 9600 pro and overclock it, that's risky and the 9600xt uses a different GPU core. So either that 128mb 9600xt or a 9800 pro, I recommend the 9800 pro.

ok of course i wont overclock it im forcing it to do something it shouldnt also i cant add anything to my signiture and im trying cause i have my own hosting business and i am uploading a few cs:s videos and pics so how you add stuff to sig i ddi but it doesnt appear on my posts?
