I plan to get SATA Hard drive. Can you recommend me the best brand name and the model name? Thanks. I will not be using a lot of space. Personally, I htink 40 GB will be perferct for me. Additionally, this is to get ready for HL2.

There are no 40gb SATA drives. There is a 36.7 western digital raptor for $117. It has 10,000 RPM. Probably the best HDD on the market right now. Besides that 80gb SATA drives from WD, seagate or maxtor are good. I have a 80gb maxtor SATA drive and it runs excellent.

I have the 36.7gig raptor and I recommend it. It runs pretty darn hot but the performance is very nice. Short loading times. Price keeps dropping too.

A WD Raptor for a OS drive would be highly recommended. They are coming out with a 75gb version if it isnt already out. These are the top of the line for SATA. They are sposed to be entry-level for workstations that are choosing between high costs, high performance with SCSI or cheaper IDE drives.

Otherwise Maxtor for SATA for good performance and a large drive space. Seagate SATA for quiet drive if you really can't stand all the noises from HDDs.

ive been considering buying one of those.

I currenty have a 40gb and a 20gb(not even plugged in).

I think ill wait a while though..i plan on building a new pc sometime next summer.

Yeah, I don't have any sort of high performance drive right now.
Standard WD 80GB

Although my motherboard does support SATA...hmm Maybe I might though in the near future.

I'm canceling the Raptor because I'm worried about the heat generation and the noise. Hmm... Now, it's between Maxtor and Seagate.

Imho, Maxtor is the best choice. I already have two of them (2x 160gb) and I will be getting another one shortly (200gb). While they are still fast drives they also keep it down to a low noise level.

I have previously owned WD and I have now IBM, Seagate, Fujitsu and Maxtor drives. Maxtor is the only one I would like to recommend though.

WD Raptor is the only SATA drive that has a performance increase over PATA drives worth mentioning. If your not thinking of getting the raptor drive, you might as well stick to PATA.

Although I think I should mention that even though Raptor is faster then other IDE drives.. It still doesn't perform as good as 10000rpm scsi drives.

Ya i was thinking of at least 1 Raptor but also maybe another drive.
If I bought 1, it would be a raptor as my OS/program drive.

I have my IDE channels full on this PC. TDK 48x24x48x /WD 80gb/WD 40gb/Maxtor 80gb.
Maybe even get 2 raptor 75gbs when they come out and put them in SATA raid.
