I do know they've been patching it a lot recently to fix problems and content. I've heard things from good to Michael Jackson incarnate. I suppose you just have to try it for yourself, it sure looks interesting.

It is a lot of fun, if you like working as a team and capturing objectives, building things etc...
I would recommend it.

I own the full game and it is about the only PC game I play right now. It is a lot of fun and there is a lot of strategy, it is kind of like tribes/tribes 2 except with melee combat.

the melee combat is done really well too, its a lot more fun than in any other fps/tps (third person shooter) I have played.

getting yelled at when your a commander is common, best thing is to practice in single player, or with a group of friends online... or bots.
once you get the system down its great fun.

If you don't want to practice commanding(like me) just watch what succesful commanders do and then when you com just do what they did. I did that and I did a horrible job but I wasn't yelled at because I had a basic strategy and got items people wanted.

The most underrated game of 2003 by far. Its the best MP team game there is!!! And definetly also the one done on the largest scale. Its very fun to play... We are even having a melee duel tournament in 40 minutes on BlackKnights server, $40 is the grand price (I doubt I will see any of it though)

Its not for everyone though, but I know a majority of people would say the same, its the best damn team game out there...

Personally I think the best multiplayer out right now is C&C: Renegade. It is highly underrated, although a lot of people still play it online. It's a lot like Savage, but with more of a focus on vehicular combat and ranged attacks. You can get it for like $10 now, so you don't have much to lose.

Savage is definitely fun. There's that one retail server that's always filled with 64 players, I completely forgot what it was called (I think it had green letters in it), but it has specific settings on it (like the gold rewards after every kill, experience point distribution, etc.) that encourage teamwork and huge battles over a chokepoint. I recommend EVERYONE to go to that server. EVERYONE. ;p The best times that I have ever played in Savage were all on that server. There's something about 10 - 15 ballistas trying to hold their main base shooting bolts towards the incoming horde of Behemoths, while groups of miscellaneous ground units rush forward in melee combat. Man, this game is much more impressive than Planetside and Renegades.

Yeah... There really isnt anything like it. The melee makes for such frantic battles, there can be 15+ people within a 20m radius (see the spawnflag shot: That's 9 Humans (+2 offscreen if I remember correctly) and 8 dead Beasts). DoD, BF1942, CS, even tribes 2 are just *skirmishes* in comparison.

No, it was crappy when it was new. Now that it's been patched and several improvements have been made it's great. The original idea was fantastic, but the netcode sucked. Since then they fixed the netcode and added in flying units for both sides, the game is awesome. IMO it's definitely the best multiplayer game out now.

There is one really good mod out right now that is a Red Alert TC. There are a few others that are too early to tell if they'll be good or not.
