Saving game files

I am about half way through playing Half-Life 2, but I need to format and reinstall Windows on my system.

How do I go about saving my game so I can continue playing after the re-install?

Navigate to your hl2 folder and backup the folder called SAVE.

Should be something like this
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\USERNAME\half-life 2\hl2\SAVE
