Say No To Steam!!!

Yep. Petitions are useless, especially a petition like this.
Also, there's a Steam forum, furthermore, what's wrong with Steam?

If you can't get it to work, that's the end user at fault.. I and all the people I know have Steam working without flaws..

I'm starting a petition to make asparagus illegal. Down with asparagus!

Wow. So tell me, when did your opinion become fact?

It's true, this petition is very old. And most people who want Steam gone have signed it already. Plus it is pointless. Steam is here to stay.

You'll see that Valve is going to lose alot of money on this shit.
Not only they force you to use that piece of shit, but player will say **** HL2 online, and just download the single player vesion and nail Valve where it hurts, THEIR POCKETS.

And besides, there are going to be ALOT more online games by the time HL2 comes out, so people wont give a shit about it.

Eh, i have nothing against Steam, and i'm on 56k modem. Updates rn't that bad, and i get a ping around 170-250, so all in all, i'm happy with steam.
YES TO STEAM

Why the hell do you hate steam?!?!

I reckon it's the smartest thing a gaming company has done for its fans.

Again, what made your opinion fact?

One of HL2's biggest features will be it's MP, or atleast it's moddability, which you'll want a CDKey for. So therefore, people will buy it. Steam will be hit hard the first couple of days, but thereafter, it will get better, and everything will be fine. (Not to mention, they'll have more content servers)

Also, do you think people buy HL these days because they want to play its 6 year old single player? No. They buy it because of mods.

Oh and, if you can't get Steam to work, you shouldn't be allowed to be use a computer :)

Why ?!

I will be buying Half-life2 mostly to play"ONLINE"

And steam isnt shit, i reckon your shit.

Dont like it? **** off and play buy another game then.

I will not sign that stupid petition, it is no use.
@ Shuzer: Blaming Steams faults on the end user is just too easy, and just as stupid. I installed the Steam-client (no cache) at the switch-over (had been with the Beta for a couple of months) and it was too troublesome, so I wiped the installation and got the full-cached one instead. It worked fine, but was more buggy than the Beta, it was minor problems though. Since then things has gotten worse, and since the last update, and the ensuing recall (apparently wiping the caches) Steam has been rendered useless. It doesnt work, period. The only changes that has been made is defrags and whatever 'updates' Valve has thrown after Steam.
And it is evident, from different forums/mailinglists that every Steam update has introduced new problems.
Get this right: I am no Valve/Steam basher; I actually like Steam, or at least the idea ;-). But had this been any other piece of software, it would've been deleted into byte-limbo long ago.

And dont even get me started on the HLDSudatetool...

I never used it and never installed it, and trust me, I know alot more about computers then you ever will.

I agree on the Steam has been rendered useless in the past couple of days, I had the same problems, had to reinstall, and it fixed it.

Anyhow, I had the same Steam problems on day one, but then again, how many hundreds of thousands of accounts got registered?

Also, my point being, I get the feeling Hallucinogen jumped on the Steam haters band-wagon because he gave it one try, it didn't work, and he flamed VALVe for trying a new approach to content delivery.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hallucinogen started spreading rumors that Steam is going to be pay to play, that there's spyware in it, and that it leaves you open to hackers. I'm just tired of people who put up petitions against Steam, or more idiots saying "OMG IT NO WERK I GTO TEH CS INSTALED B4 BTU NWO I HAV 2 INSTAL DIS TING WERE IT GIEVZ ME CONTNET, BTU IT NO WERK SO WTF VALVE SUX OMG!!!!!!!!111"

To summarize what I said, for the average anti-Steam/VALVe person, they know diddly squat on how to operate their computer, nevermind Steam, so they jump on the flaming band-wagon

Yep. There you go again, showing your opinion as fact. First off, you don't know me. Second off, you have no place in throwing your opinions around if you never even gave Steam a try. Third, if you hate it so much, go away. VALVe sucks for releasing Steam in your eyes, so why even bother posting here (you're at a fansite for a game being made by VALVe, for god's sake)? Steam won't go away, especially not with some idiot like you spreading anti-Steam petitions around saying "DUDE SIGN IT AND VALVE WILL STOP THE STEAM PROJECT~~~!!"

Go away, troll. You know not of what you speak.

Oh and, you make me laugh. "...and trust me, I know alot more about computers then you ever will."
It's than, not then, and, like I said, you don't know me, and I get the picture that you're just another mindless troll.

Edit: I'd also like to point out that "alot" is not a word, it's "a lot", go figure. I'll leave this thread be now, don't want to get banned/warned for flaming someone for their spelling/grammar :)

Must.. resist.. replying..

Actually, Mr. "I'll judge others, act like a know-it-all, then try and turn it around and call others what I am", you never said I "don't know squat", I said that YOU don't know squat. Get a clue, and go away.

Mods, please lock this thread. It's making me sick to see the ignorance of people like Hallucinogen.

No offence but is something wrong in your head?

Why dont you like it if you HAVE NOT USED IT BEFORE?

Are you basing it on something very stupid.

And your the one thinking you know it all.

Shuzer: Thats very reasonable.
I'd like to point out again (for the sake of redundance) that I'd consider my self PRO-Steam, the idea is good; but I made the mistake of deleting the cached installer. So now I am looking at a 700 MB dl, backup operations, deletion and reinstalling. It's not a major problem, but its a nuisance, and I would not like to do that again. And I think that an option for not auto-updating Steam should be added, as well as the possibility to get separate updates as downloadable exe's.
Steam worked ok for weeks here, and was killed by an automatic update that I couldn't choose not to get.

What's funny is, I deleted the cached installer myself, so I had to re-download the whole thing tonight  Luckily, all I had to backup was some stuff in my CS folder, everything else was default.

And yes, sounds like you had the same experience I had, that recalled update seemed to muck Steam up for me, and you, all together :)

"Hey kettle! You're black!"

Seriously. You've never even tried the thing to see how it works, yet you preach about how bad you think it is. Then you have the nerve to call other people ignorant. What's wrong with this picture?

argh, I thought I saw the last of these threads on these forums! Someone please get rid of this, it's only going to lead to even worse places.

JUST SAY NO!

This was my original post you dyslexic little assclowns, I never said nothing else, just said there is a petition against Steam, and you all get bent out of shape and start assuming I started the petition and this and that, get a ****in life you circuis freaks, damn nerds and their Steam

my $0.02.

gamers are not activists, we don't not buy game because we disagree with a service. people aren't going to not play online because they don't like steam.

I'm confused why Hallucinogen is emphasizing the point that he has never used Steam. Hallucinogen, on what do you base your opinion?

All I said, was that I found that petition online, thats it, but people just to conclusions about stuff they have no clue about, I never said I hate steam and this and that, but yet right after my 1st post here everyone got bent out of shape accusing me of stuff I never said
Damn nerds.

ah. but surely you must see where they're coming from...posting a link to an anti-steam petition DOES seem like something you would only do if you agreed with it...?

and you did say that you think steam will hl2 and valve...so clearly you think its a bad idea.

Moved to Steam Users forum. Please post in the appropriate forum in future.

well you did say you signed the petition and passed it on, so that means you have a reason for signing it, one would think, logically, if you haven't used steam, then you couldn't support something against it, without actually trying it yourself, or is this illogical?

Annyyyway. I've just read through this thread and have decided to place a lock on it.

Until people grow up and can refrain from derogatory, flame-like comments, discussions like this will continue to be stopped.
