SC: Chaos Theory - Plot Question

Hello,

I just finished HL2 and was in need of a new gaming fix...so i picked up SC: Chaos Theory...the game looks amazing, however i was wondering if the plot in Chaos Theory builds on the previous games plots or if it is completely stand alone...i would really just like to dive into Chaos Theory and not worry about the past installments of the series. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dru

I believe it stand alone, it shouldn't build on any other plots.

Actually, your going to want to play the first two to understand Chaos Theory.

you can play SC:Chaos theory without having played the other two, but there are references to previous ops, and even a character from one of the prior games.

that being said, if you have played SC:Chaos theory, you won't WANT to play through the other two, SC:CT is such a leap graphically and gameplay wise, it's a pain to play the other two.

It does follow on from the first, yes - the Masse kernels, in the first CT mission, for example. It's all fairly minor, though, there's no need at all to play the first (although I recommend you do, it's very good.)

indeed there are plenty of references to the first one. Shetland, the Mass Kernels...

Either way the story was never a big hit in SC.

so from the replies is seems that the others may help with understanding, but they are not essential to understanding the plot...so i will probably just skip the other two and simply play Chaos Theory as a standalone...also just by reading the manual i feel as though i have a good grasp on the plot (the storyline seems to be the typical "terrorists have gained access to nukes and you must stop them"). Thanks much for all the speedy replies. HL2.net has the best community!
