Be warned there is a new scam abouts. I have noticed some of my email inboxes getting fake emails with catchy titles such as:

- Dude your gonna get caught, lol
- man, who filmed this thing?
- Dude don't send that stuff to my home email
- Where did you hide that camera?

When you open the email it says a random text with a youtube link.

DO NOT click the link. Visually it says [DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK, EVEN THOUGH, FOR WHATEVER REASON, IT SHOULD TEMPT YOU.]www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgFSea[DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK, EVEN THOUGH, FOR WHATEVER REASON, IT SHOULD TEMPT YOU.]
But it is a fake link, it sends you to another non-YouTube URL where you might get a trojan, keylogger or virus.

I was lucky, but one of my friends wasn't. And another guy I know (not in RL) also got one.

So...take the ****ing link off this thread?

The link that is posted in the thread is OK, its a valid youtube one. I assume the one in the email reads as the youtube link but uses the html <a href> to take you to a site that isn't youtube.

I assume the emails come from infected persons?

Really?

That's like, some kind of plague. Almost like...a virus. Oh god how do we stop it! It will take over the World! :naughty:

:p

It's a trick!

Who on earth clicks any link or attachment from an unknown source?

May I point you to Cormeh's comment?

thanks for the notice

but honestly, who here these days is dumb enough to click a link from an email from a complete stranger?

strange/confusing email + unknown sender + a freakin LINK in the email = DUHH SPAM

So wait, is it an actual link to Youtube which somehow redirects you to a malicious site, or just a malicious site dressed up with some HTML to look like a link to Youtube?

Pretty sure you must mean the latter, but just checking because I don't automatically trust Youtube's security after someone somehow managed to get unremovable porn (for several hours at least) on it.

yea I put up a link to a 'gabe newell' site one time, and even wrapped bold, large font, red lettered text around it saying, "DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK and I think still a few people clicked it...

The funny thing is that the way I remember the Valve website as valvesoftware.com rather than valve-software is because Takashi Shimura (one of the early kngHenry incarnations) made a thread about the latter being a gay porn site. I guess that's kind of on topic.

Honestly, you deserve a virus if you click on a link in a nonsensical email like that without even bothering to check the actual destination (although if it somehow bounces you through Youtube that would be more tricksy).

Important news
Wait wait, you mean virus mails pretend to be something they're not in order to get you to unknowingly infect yourself? So you shouldn't click links in random emails? Wow, those clever virus makers just keep coming up with the strangest methods! What will they think of next, ha ha!

Just warning you you ungrateful little ****, perhaps you don't help people, well I do.

Quick show of hands, how many of you would be dimwitted enough to fall for this had he not warned you?

I wonder what someone would do if they saw a link that said

"I are veggies."

...

Just wondering... Go "WTF?!" or "VEGGIES RULE!"?

I just check my spam in gmail and found one of those. Link just brought up the standard youtube error of the video not existing.

Also, it wasn't actually a link, the entire email was plaintext so there was no html trickery.

If your mom sees this she this video of you she is gonna freak. here is where I found it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6drf3gIIu8
