The "Not as long as the thread" version with links all over..

http://blog.cyberchun.com/archives/000428.html

05/16/2008 - A newly registered member "benzgrandcru" posts a new thread about selling a set of E63 AMG wheels and tires. Two MBWorld forum members, Timeless and teolax show interest, and PM the seller.

5/22/2008 - Timeless posts back saying that although he's given payment via Google checkout, the seller seems less than honest and that his wheels have been "lost in shipping"

benzgrandcru immediately begins to accuse Timeless of defaming him and that DHL had lost his wheels.

teolax comes forward saying that he's been scammed as well. He's also paid through Google checkout and is told that his set of wheels were lost by DHL.

Lol, internet vigilante at its best.

Haha oh wow I bet that kid shat bricks when they came up with his address and pictures of him and his house.

I read through the entire thread, and pretty much lawled the whole way through.

Theres no ending to the story! Was he arrested? Did the other scammed people get their money back?

That must have been so ****ing creepy seeing them posting pictures of places you used to live and getting closer and closer to your home. And how the **** did they get his social security number? I mean, the last 4 digits are usually the ones easy to find out, but nobody ever asks for the first part, so wtf.

I don't get it how the heck they got the licence plate numbers from the photos where they were covered up.

Apparently the moron forgot to flatten the layers on his images.

Thumbnail information in the image is sometimes of the previous unedited version.

How does that matter in a jpg? Doesnt it automatically flatten it?

Unless he saved it in some format that retains objects, layers, masks etc.(Which would be extremely dumb btw)

Yeah, thats what I thought too, but the guy who posted them in that thread said that the scammer didnt flatten/rasterize the layer, and I guess somehow he was able to do something with it despite it being jpgs.

The cool thing about this whole thing, is it happened just last week. So new developments are still pouring through.

That is awesome. My unasked question about license plates has been answered, but how did they get his address? Wouldn't it take someone working in the police to get this info (not an attorney)?

Maybe they tracked him through his ip adress. Just a thought.

They may also have got him from his google checkout thing.

Hello everyone im new. :D

One of us could like, you know, ask the guys on the forum if we really need to know.

Also, hey Toaster.

Oh lol. Gotta love this. Hope it develops to the extent of that other scammer abuse a while back.

Internet Justice Go!

Kinda awe-inspiring how quickly and efficiently they located him... Scammers everywhere are probably liek "o sht..."

hahahaa.

who would have thought. he's probably like

D:

later on dumb crook news...

If only the justice system worked as well as a bunch of random people on the internet who dont even know each other do.

Wow, saying that out loud makes it sound even worse than I intended it to.

I know what you meant, you sexy stud.

You can access most public records free at a Courthouse.

This is just epic. There's like 20 different forums pouring in information and comments about the situation. Its amazing what people can do on the internet when they work together. What got me is when they were outside his house! That just gets creepy. They found everything from his insurance, social security number, house address, where he graduated from.

Its all amazing. These guys are doing great things, and I can't wait to see him get busted. I've been reading this for a long while now. Just got caught up.

They closed the thread since too much spamming going on. Closer to the end there was some good developments. If you haven't read it recently, that short guide has been updated.
