Scariest movie?

Since halloween is over, I thought I would see what movie you think is the scariest. :devil:

Possibly Hannibal, just for the gooey bit at the end, i felt ill after that part. Or when i saw Chucky 1 when i was 5ish.. had nightmares about it, never seen a chucky film since although that wasnt out of my choice.
 
I can't really remember many scary movies that really was scary, although one does come to mind and that'd be Darkness Falls (aka Toothfairy) which i watched on a pretty big TV with proper setup 5.1 surround sound turned well high and it scared me more than any film i've ever watched.

Some newer films scare me for a minute but then its gone again. The Ring is quite creepy though (which reminds me, i've got The Grudge - will have to watch soon)
 
Would say there have only been two movies that truly scared me :

1) The Exorcist
2) Jaws (I have a fear of water..so that didn't help...also the very first movie I saw in a theater in 1975)

Things today are just so watered down and generic...give me the older movies any day.
 
I'd have to say Halloween 1 and 2,
very creepy stuff..

The Exorcist. Mostly because it was supposedly based on a true story.
 
I just watched 28 days later, and whilst not the scariest film, it certainly did give me the creeps + made me feel scared about if that did happen ;(

Great movie. I'm a zombie movie freak.


Most horror movies are comedies to me. Then, there are the really bad horror movies that use mondo gore and hokey craziness like 'House of a 1000 Corpses'. Man, that movie wasn't funny nor scary, it just made me cry.
 
The only problem I had with 28 Days Later was that for like 1/3rd of the movie, they were just peacefully driving around the countryside.
 
I didn't like 28 days later, the only part of it that give me the creeps is when the black zombie is up against the window just staring.

I'll have to change my mind. Just watched The Grudge and i thought it was pretty damn scary.

I've never seen The Exorcist (the original one) so i don't know how scary it really is but if its anything like The Exorcist: The Beggining then it ain't scary to me because i watched that a couple days ago and thought it was shit for most of it. The first half of the film was good, then the devil speaks and it just made me think i was watching a porno of ugly women. Check spoiler for one line the devil says

<possesed woman with cheesy voice sitting on top of an ex-priest> Do you still want to stick your cock in my juicy ass?

don't really get too scared by movies anymore, but i did when i was a kid :)

the thing and jacob's ladder scared the sweet jesus out of me when i was a lad.
 
IT freaked me out when I first saw it - great movie btw (apart from the silly ending :/)

28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead are two of my favorite movies, but they're not scary while you're watching, just when you're thinking "Shit, what if that happened?"
 
Signs and The Ring scared me
Infact all the M Nights films scare me a lot, its the way he does it with such a lot of suspence, the opposite of the grudge which is terrrible.
The most horrific film i have seen is Saw, because of all the horrible ways the people die in it.
 
Exorcist: The Beginning. Had the right mix of gore and horror, more scary than the original imho.

It would be fun if the dead walked.. Life would sure be interesting.
 
Yeah, it's kind of fun to think about what you and your friends would all do if it happened... you know, running around with guns and whatnot.

Then you realize that you wouldn't survive and you'd just die.

The Shining (Kubrick Version) is the scariest film I have ever seen. Seen it when I was 12 and still at the age of 25 find it hard to walk down a long Hotel Corridor without getting freaked out!

Also found Ring a scary film (The end is horrific!)

Just watched SAW last night and thought it was also very creepy.

I always had the same plan as well; it's a solid plan. Besides, northern chicks are hot, too.

What was the name of that book that was like a 'Night of the Living Dead Guide to Survival'? Know what I'm talkin' about?

No, never heard of that book, but if you find it let me know, I might try pick it up for christmas, could be a fun read :)

The Thing (as a kid)

Ring (original.. as an adult)
Ring2 (original.. as an adult)

Ju-On (originals...pretty much all of the Ju-On movies were scary, which I loved)

Phone

Eye

Probably others but I forgot the names of most of em.
 
I never really found the Shining scary, but that one part was disturbing. With the naked dead person, and whatnot?
 
Jacob's Ladder was pretty bad.

First time I saw it, I switched over right when
Jacob gets tagged with the bayonet.

Guhhh.
 
The Shining was more creepy than scary I think

Jacob's Ladder was disturbing, but the Hospital part and the people with shaking heads were very creepy.
 
Jaws still creeps me. That's the only movie that can scare or creep me anymore. I had a few childhood scary movies, but now I'm practically immune to scary movies... except Jaws. Jaws always seems to poke it's stick at me from time-to-time -- especially if I watch it while I'm at the beach. Jaws roots into humankind's primal fears. We are not in control in the water / ocean and we're not at the top of the food chain. Therefore, we have every reason to be afraid.
 
I'm not sure about the scariest movie I've ever seen in my life but Ju-on was pretty freaky.

The Ring is the only movie that has made me really scared. The sudden movements when the girl comes out of the TV showing her face at the end give me the creeps just thinking about it.. /me creeps ;)

Yeah that bit freaked me out. I actually turned Signs over near the end when it was on TV and its only a 12 over here :LOL:

Um... I found the original Mimic wasn't bad. I don't catch most horror movies in the cinemas, though, and I usually forget to get them out on video when they're available...

That My Little Pony movie they made at one point... now THAT was scary... almost shit myself when I saw it playing on the loungeroom TV...

It was kind of funny, I thought that movie, Darkness Falls, looked aweful and I never planned to see it. But when some friends and I rented another movie that one was in the case by accident so we watched it as the store was already closed.

It actually turned out to be somewhat entertaining. Pretty good suspense/horror movie really.

I'm not really scared by them all that much, but my favorite scary movies are all the ones by M. Night Shyamalan. I especially enjoyed Signs and The Village. They had some really creepy scenes that were great. I always wanted to get a portable TV and go out into the middle of a corn field at night and watch Signs. Now that would be scary.
 
jacob's ladder... vibrating heads, hell depicted in the form of a mental hospital, devil sex, evil voices, reality and dream blurred...just AMAZING and nothing has matched the amount this film creeped me...and those who are a fan of this just HAVE to see the hallucination deleted scene...it wouldnt suprise me if they took it out because of how disturbing it was

original texas chainsaw massacre... not boo scary but ...it just genuinley disturbs me as it feels so real

event horizon ...the only decent film paul anderson has done and a shame that the rumoured SE version didn't surface last month...gives me a true sense of evil watching eh

the shining... i can't see how people don't find this scary. the isolation, painstakingly watch a sane person lose his mind, flashes of nastyness...its excellent

house on haunted hill ... i REALLY like this film up until the last 15 minutes...its very very well made up until then and i haven't seen a film darker than it since...except maybe...

darkness ...nice little spanish film that honest to god had me shit my pants more than any other film i've ever seen. some of the imagery is GENUINLEY disturbing, from old dark eyed women to strange roof creatures...very posh editing aswell

lost highway... not all of it but little scenes here and there are genuinley creepy and this is why i think david lynch should one day direct a straight horror film because it would probably be the best horror movie ever made

blair witch project ...the ending is all i will say for this amazingly well done film
 
War of the Worlds

Where forrester chucks the axe into the aliens face....

It runs out screaming. Shit the scream is comparable to HL2's new zombie, which makes it even creepier.

The fact that the film was the best looking sci-fi back in the day, hell people even watch it today.

Well the film was scary when I was a five year old, especially seeing that camera drone pop through the window and through the roof. I kept my window closed from then on.
 
hmm, I dont think I´ve ever felt scared about any movie. Maby when I was about 9 I saw this Evil Dead movie that my brother brought home, and it was horribe!! I couldnt sleep at all that night :(
But I watched it again when I was older and I think its just hilarious :p
 
Event Horizon was scary, but the ending ruined the whole movie. It should have just been a mysterious scary space movie rather than a "Hahahahaha I'm a monster and I'm going to eat your eyes HAHAHAHAHA also, you're going to see hallucinations, and you'll be foolish enough to chase after them because you lack common sense! Hahahahahahahahaha I'm so EEEEviiil!" movie.

Blair witch project was NOT SCARY AT ALL. In fact, the entire movie was just completely stupid. How STUPID to you need to be to venture into a dark forest WITHOUT A COMPASS AND A MAP! I was actually glad that those stupid wankers all died.

28 days later gave me the creeps, but I mostly just felt sad for Frank, the best character in the movie
(he was the one that got zombified near the middle and was shot by those military guys)...

I saw the original Japanese "The Grudge" and wasn't scared the slightest during the movie. However, after the movie, I was a little more afraid of the dark than usual. So I guess that counts. Maybe.

Oh, and when I was little I saw Bettlejuice and had a nightmare the following night. I was scared of that snake thing. Of course, watching it now I find that thing laughably fake looking and not scary at all.

I can't remember any other movies...
