Is anyone taking the SATs? I'm going on June 4 to test my luck. I've been studying like crazy - I learned like 500 new words in less than 2 months but I often forget a few so constant reviewing has become imperative. I'm also trying to refresh some math skills. Does anyone have any experiences, tips, or scores they want to share? Please don't hesitate to post.

SATS?
Are those different to the ones in the UK?
I'm sure the sats over here were like when i was 13 or 14 or something.
How old are you?

I think the American SATs are important, very much unlike the UK ones.

I'm 17 but people take them usually at the age of 18. It's a US college admission test. I don't live in the US, but I'm hoping I can get a scholarship if I do well.

isnt scholastic a publishing company?

indeed

Don't sweat it.

SAT's are mostly easy. Average in my school is 1400...but that was before they added the writing part. That's the part you have to worry about.

/me shudders

I beasted the new ones they came out with:
700 Math
750 Reading
800 writing

Each section is out of 800, so I got 2250 out of 2400 possible points.

Yeah SATS are great.

Got level 7s I think. That was when I was 14. Don't count for anything though.
But you still get drunk and go out on the pull afterwards.

wow you're a tank! what scores do you need to get a scholarship? and where can you go with that score + where do you plan to go?

I dont know if there's a scholarship based only on SAT score. That would be pretty cool. My GPA is only 3.6 (gonna be 3.7 when weighted) mostly because I go to a really tough private school, so thats really gonna hold me back. I can probably go anywhere i want in Virginia, Im hoping for UVA. Might apply to some big name schools like Harvard, just for the hell of it.

You really should go for some big names. I don't think scholarships are based on the SAT alone but if you have an amazing SAT score, display community/extracurricular involvement, have good grades, and you write a nice acceptance letter, you'll get one.

SATs in the Uk are pointless, I got level 6 and 7s, I felt like a total dipshit after I found out they were a waste of time.

I didn't even do my Year 9 SATs, I was busy in er "mental rehab".

SATs are so, so, so gay, they don't test shit, first they teach you bullshit, then make you take the test that hardly relates to any material that you "didn't learn" in school

1350.

You know how they say "If you don't know the answer in under 1 minute, skip it and come back later."? They're absolutely right there. Oh, and if you're ADHD like me, TAKE YOUR MEDICATION. Cuz you know there's gonna be some dumb chick next to you who compulsively taps her foot against her chair OVER and OVER...gaaa, that pissed me off so much. She was hot, though. *sigh*

A hot girl with ADHD? That could swing both ways...

What's this ADHD? I hear it's just some condition they made up to cover up for kids that are just dumb or haven't had any discipline from their parents.

ADHD
abbr.

attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

A syndrome, usually diagnosed in childhood, characterized by a persistent pattern of impulsiveness, a short attention span, and often hyperactivity, and interfering especially with academic, occupational, and social performance.

Here is a tip! Move to Canada the land of the free (at least from SAT)

I've given enough damn hints.

I don't feel like reading them, though. Something is telling me that the average SAT in your school is not 1400.

No, it's quite real, it's just that it's a lot of kids are just misdiagnosed with it when in reality they're just being kids (hyper, restless). Has nothing to do with being "dumb".

lol i do live in Canada. I just hope to do well on the SAT so I can get a scholarship to the U.S. I'm just keeping my options open.

i took them to get into a course in Dublin.
I got better than 77% of the Americans who took the test last year on the english bit and that wasn't enough! (i got through on the maths though 89%)

Edit: 650 in maths, 570 in english.
