Yeah, thats the idea...

Don't really know if their are all that many (modders) this could turn out to be just a big wasted effort, but at this point I can't really turn back..

well i guess the program is good... but the interface is hella bad =/

also, being able to export textures so you can edit them would be nice, kind of like in HLMV
 
Yes, a major improvement would be to shell out the bling-blings from the interface and replace with standard Windows GUI.

Actually the UI mimics Softimage|XSI:s UI.

I think I should try this one of these days, tbh Valve's own tools are quite crappy.

Ditto. The UI is ugly and confusing, I just can't be bothered to wade through it. I think I managed to get some of my GCFs mapped before I got stuck.

HI All,

About the UI, First the UI, as was stated by another member (mimics Softimage XSI's interface) This is because It will be a Softimage XSI plugin very shortly!

XSI and this plugin will work (BEST) in dual monitors and the interfaces
both will work the same way. You will build in XSI, and design the game
in HL2Studio.

What are the advantages of using this over hammer and the other tools in the SDK?

What takes a hell of a lot of time in hammer will be done much faster in
this plugin, from building maps, to desiging the game world parameters.
A new world editor for valve is long overdue, in my opinion.

Here is an example of what I mean by faster.

In HL2Studio
I wan't to make a 25 node rope, Well I pick from a simply arranged and sorted list of some 400+ entities, click and its in, change the parameters in the properties window (already visible), done.

Now in Hammer
Compare this simple step to hammer , Click the enties button make a point selection, select your entity in a very long list in a very short window, then you need to hit the enter key. then you need to double click the entity to edit the properties(this sometimes fails to bring up the properties window).

Next step in HL2Studio:
Control copy your first rope node and make twenty five copies of it. The rope nodes are automatically assigned names, Click the 'NextKey' entity parameter and link the nodes, Rope is done. Multi select the rope nodes and drag and drop it into the 3D world viewer. Now translate your nodes and you are done.

Now in hammer:
Hit enter key 25 times and make 25 nodes, now go into the properties window
and type in the names for every node, by selecting every node, and then the targetname. Now for every node click a node, select the NextKey parameter, click the eye drop tool, and select the next node (and you can only do this in the 3D view with the eye drop tool) repeat 25 times. Now translate into position your nodes.

In the end It took you 5 Min Max in HL2Studio it took you 30 Min Max in
Hammer.


Thats what I mean by faster.

yeah, that's all well and good. but I can't even get that far. the UI is ****ed, I managed to view a few models but then windows were getting stretched and I couldn't get em back and my scroller on my mouse had to be used backwards! I'd probably seriously consider using it if it was a standard windows interface, and worked properly

If you are refering to HL2Studio v2.0 it has not been released yet its only screenshots.

And as for v1.4 its just a model/texture viewer audio player.

It looks very useful for a map with a lot of complex I/O activity in particular. I'll check it out when 2.0 is released.
 
Hey, could you guys possible incorperate some type of frame captureing software to this? Alot of people love the video tutorials and if there was some sort of standerdized way of doing it, alot more of those tutorials might be made.

Also... If it is at all possible... Even for DUAL computers AKA side by side pcs linked with a patch cable, find some way to be able to make changes to a map live.

My thinking is *yes im lazy and need to get over it* but what if? If no one asked, then it would never be done. So here goes....

With my thinking process, although as limited as it might be. I think there might be a way to do something almost like a on the fly way of showing in game changes by lets say running the game in a window and editing in the other. *dual core processor option?* or maybe even doing something like, if you make a change in the editor, then the game pauses *chokes* a secound and recompiles the changed area?

That may not make sense, but it might get the right peoples gears turning for makeing this come true. The most anoying part that I have when making maps is weather or not the lighting looks good.

Looks promising. I'm really looking forward to use it. Is this official plugin or is it just something you thought of? Because this would make modding even more cohesive and easier in terms of modelling and mapping.
 
Whoa, it looks like it's alot more efficient at making good brushes instead of having to break up the brushes. I hate doing that tedious work in hammer... (So the compiler doesn't break them up terribly)

To bad I'm too used to Hammer.
