Anyone know how I can take a screenshot from a WMV? I tried print screen, but it doesn't like that and just shows windows media player, and all that is around it very nice but the actual video doesn't appear.

If you go into options, theres an overlay option...fiddle with that :D

Sorry, I cant remember exactly, its been yonks :P

edit: \o/!!

Performance > advanced > overlays :D

The problem is that to accelerate playback video frames are overlayed instead of being rendered to the primary display (like the rest of the desktop is). Turning off overlay does allow you to take screenshots at the cost of reducing performance.

I believe there is a DX9 extension that allows you to take screenshots from the DirectDraw engine (works for games as well).

If that doesn't help, get BSplayer. IMO it's far superior to windows media player for playing videos and it comes with a frame capture utility (you can just keep hitting the key during playback to capture as many frames as you like).

Whenever I try to open a wmv with that thing it says "can't open file" but it opens mpg's fine.

Any suggestions?
