Have you guys read this?

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?FN=wow-general&T=520493&P=1

They're forcing you to play on local servers. It's bad enough Europeans have to wait two or three months for the game to come out in shops, but we can't even play on the servers we want to? What gives?

"Blizzard has not yet announced plans for further localized releases or further regional Beta testing for World of Warcraft. Unlike our past Battle.net games, World of Warcraft requires that a complex regional server infrastructure and a local GM/support staff be in place to provide the excellent customer service and unparalleled gameplay experience that we intend to deliver. In addition, we must translate content for each region in which the game will be available so that players will be able to understand the game's text and therefore be able to enjoy it appropriately."

What the hell? I don't want to play the game in french! And all my old guild mates are in the US.

Worst.idea.ever.

That's a silly idea. I wonder if Australians get forced onto the Asian realm as that's our region.....aha gg language differences. That would be retarded.

You should be able to choose where to play.

you'll still end up buying it and getting a years subscription anyway. :p

Halo 2 does the same thing with optimatch, I was playing with a bunch of people from Minnesota, which is effing amazing.

WTF
Why !? WHY ?!!?

Why are you going with localized servers?

To provide the absolute best connectivity to our game servers, Blizzard has set up dedicated datacenters for World of Warcraft in multiple regions around the world. These local servers provide low-latency, high-speed access to ensure players have the best possible experience playing the game. In addition to providing local servers, Blizzard has established local teams, including game masters, community team members, and technical support staff, in each region in order to provide players with a high level of customer support in their native language. Because of these local teams, customers will be able to have their game-related concerns addressed promptly and efficiently by knowledgeable and helpful support representatives who understand local issues. All of these factors will contribute to providing players with the best possible gameplay experience when playing World of Warcraft on their regional servers.

Hmm right, I really need that 50ms ping for an MMO... yeah right.

My thoughts exactly.

There are so many people who said no to this on their forums and a petition that almost has 10K signatures but they don't care. ;(

omg, this is going to suck for us.

About Australia:

What servers will the Middle East and Australia utilize at launch?

We're still examining options for the Middle East and Australia and will release more information for these regions as soon as possible.

So basically there's no answer. Yes it sucks bawlz!

well it's planned for initial release, they may change it down the road, I guess it's to balance server load... makes sense.

theyll probally change it, not only that but it would be SO easy to bypass. for a start if you have the open beta client, all you need is a key and you can start playing... so you could just purchase a american key from blizzard and then play on their servers.

ive been playing on the closed beta servers for a while now, they accepted me into the US beta evern though i was English :p im sure it will be piss easy to get into an american server.

Creators of MMO games have been notorious for caving under community pressure. For better or for worse at some point they WILL change it. Guarenteed.

Then again, it IS Blizzard, so you never know. :)

Piss easy? the only way to play on a US server at retail is to have a US billing address.

what if anyone would play human rage on usa server
all same test server men that would be wicked :D

I feel like digging up all the "WoW is great and beats everything else" posts....

Ahem I'll let you know that you'll be playing either on french or german servers.

why should that bother me? less lag, easier to get raids going due to time zone, and i won't have to deal with battle.net kiddies whinging about lag and mob drops and other such non-existent problems.

This sucks. Seriously affecting my purchase decision.

Blizzard has always been known to get alot of things right. I'm pretty sure they thought this through. Plus if you get mad at WoW, come to guild wars where alot of ex-blizzard employs work at :).

Who cant love better gfx + some really nice lighting affects + gameplay out of this world(Think of Sc! Think of Wc1 or Wc2 when they first came out)

WoW I'm sure will hold blizzards amazing gameplay as all there games have. But will with WoW and Sc:G some decisions of theres...have seemed..rather off..

Hmm yeah Guildwars is pretty and all but that's about it, it's basically a 3D version of Diablo. On the brighter side, at least it doesn't have the pretentiousness of other MMOs.

Besides I really like WoW, it's simple and fun. The community may not be the most mature or friendly one out there but the game makes up for it. Anyway I just hope they would change their policy before release. Some say it's not Blizzard who's calling the shots on this, but Vivendi.

What community is?

Since i kinda hate vivendi... DAMN YOU VIVENDI YOU MESSED UP WOW.

Guild Wars I don't think is anything like Diablo(I played d1 for like 2 years and D2 for around 2-3 years).
It seems to have a Wc like place, and monsters. Alot more fantasy. Diablo and D2 barley had tactics, in guild wars I can easily tell they will be utilized heavily since you can only take 8 spells into any battle.
The whole game and how it is overall played is nothing like Diablo. In diablo you have to overall play alot to get to a higher leven and get better. In Guild Wars thats not the case. As they once said "A dude could play for an hour, another dude 10 minutes a day and there characters could be just as good".

Also in Guild Wars, your spells don't get better but they get more diverse.

Trust me, it may use some Diablo style elements but baley any.. It might be overall hack n slash but other than that the spell system the spells the leveing and everything else isn't anything like diablo.

I'm quite pissed about this but i only planned to play this game with one other american i know from another MMORPG i play(ed) and he does'nt know about this yet so i don't think he'll be playing WoW now on his own (i know...make friends but it isn't the same as playing with someone you've known for 2 years). I'll still be playing though...get my brother on board and make it a race to level 50 :p I just hope that they enforce an english language if they have an english server and no...im not racist o.o i just think all but english language sucks :p
