If you remember correctly, there were about 20-50 Barney's in HL..... how do we know wich one survived?..... if you find this thread stupid or uselles, delete it. Thank you.

The one that survived was Barney Calhoun from the Blue Shift expansion pack. :p

i think it´s a good thread, I never understood who of all those "barneys" who did survive..

I never played Blue Shift, just HL1 and Opposing Force..
I thought Blue Shift would be on Steam, free 2 play but obviously not.. N.E know why?

The engine was changed quite a bit for Blue Shift, so it's hard to stick into Steam apparently.

Wasn't Blue Shift developed by Gearbox instead of Valve? But, who developed OPfor?

Then why can't we play that when we can play Blue Shift? Isn't both of them official?

Blueshift, IIRC uses a highly modified half life engine and would require a complete download of a new engine, to do that for free would most likely be useless for valve.

In Half Life, Barney is the security guard who is knocking on the door with a flashlight during the train ride. That is the only time that Gordon sees him.

exactly

Whats the fascination with Barney then? you see him for like a minute at the start and thats it? And they bring him into HL2 even though hes so insignificant...i never caught onto why Barney is such a big character...i know dogs that have done more than him with that name

they prabably use barney again as a tool to link all the 3 together (HL, HL:BS, and HL2) so you can go, o look theres barney, how ya doin?

etc

Because he escaped along with other scientists in Blueshift.

cause people got attached to him and his gungo ho go get ur self shot way of doing things

Speh heh heh heh heculation!
Please move kthxbai.

I like Barney... I can't wait to fight with him on the streets like the movies and screenshots depict!

Finally he doesn't just run right in front of the enemy and shoot! And I won't be killing him for ammo!

It would be hilarious if he said some of the same things when you shot him.

I've said it before, I hope that one of the combine say; "Why do we have to wear these ridiculous masks." Call-backs like that would be cool, dito with barney.

What do ya' want on you're tomb stone?

:p

all the barneys are the same in Half Life, because i think you are suppost to imagine they are all different police officers.

it is like the scientist. they all looked the same. about 3-4 different scientist models.

I didn't know which was ELI VANCE, because they all looked the same.

And let's not forget that those scientists and Barney's were never meant to be so loveable. Valve soon realized after release that fans really enjoyed them. That is why they are expanding them so big in HL2.

I guess Eli is the only black scientist. Of course he appered on many places in the game, which means he's fast. Or that the teleportation thingy works. =)

EDIT: I should say: Eli is the scientist that is black.

I thought Eli was the first scientist who has a speaking role after the accident. You know, the one who tells you to boogi up to the surface and get som help. Barney is Calhoun, ie the first barney you see in half-life.

Barney is used as a generic name for all HL guards, and it's the model name for the guard in files. However, of course, the security guards you met were actually different people. Barney Calhoun, as a character, is one specific guard. Gordon only sees him at the very beggining of the train ride, Barney is knocking on a door.

The real deal with him is that the BlueShift expansion pack let you play as Barney Calhoun. You indeed were there at that door, waiting to be let in, and you did get to see Gordon Freeman pass you in his train. Barney also saw Gordon twice more, aber Gordon never saw Barney again.

At the end of BlueShift, Barney escaped Black Mesa and the military perimeter along with a few scientists, including Dr. Rosenberg, a character I absolutely loved.

Barney is to Half-Life what Wedge Antilles is to Star Wars.

Half-life 2 was about getting out of the black masa, surviving and destroying Nilihithan(sp) Barney survived, not everyone survives the miltary's top trained people

Because it sucked and Valve didn't make it. Just like OP4, but worse.

Barney would make an ace posable figure, I know that. Maybe with some of his catch phrases playable via some sound system in the base.

HL edition~
Comes with: Weedy pistol! Shiny, shiny helmet! Removable ballistic vest! Says [X] different phrases!

"Hey, Gordon, catch me later, I'll buy ya a beer!"
"What do you want on your tombstone?"
"Take this, you outer space octopus!" (or whatever it was one of the Barneys said to the tentacles...)
Etc...

HL2 Edition~
Comes with:
"Headhumper"!
Five-O-Clock Shadow! Combine clothing! Wierd little machine gun that nobody can agree on the identity of! Says [X] different phrases!

"Remember when we thought Black Mesa was as bad as it could get?"
"Cover me, Gordon!"
Etc...

Funniest Barney moment:

Barney guns down one of the human soldiers then quips, "That'll look nice in my trophy room." I could just picture a stuffed marine hanging on the wall of Barney's study.
