Scripting help/tutorials

First off, if anyone can point me to some tutorials on scripting it'd be great. I've having a hard time trying to find anything. Not really looking in the right spots I guess. Secondly, I have a few scenarios involving scripting that I would like to include in my map and would like to know if its possible before I start mapping it all out.

1) Is it possible to have NPC's shoot at specfic points on a map? Say I want some to open fire on a building when something is triggered?

2)I have to move my NPC's as well as myself to their destination far outside of city 17 in a sealed off boxcar. Yes, alternate history timeline in use here. I would rather not waste my time mapping out a two minute train ride, nor would I think all that terrain be good for frame rates anyhow. I would like to have the boxcar simulate the train ride by moving it occasionally to fake it. Script a few bumps and jostles in there if possible. Then, I can open up the door 10 seconds before its to stop, you see some land go by and there you are. No one would ever know the train was stationary for most of that time.

Any help you guys can give me on this would be great.
